World Poetry Day — March 21

Library shelves wait
Quiet pages full of worlds—
Take one home today.

Poetry can be funny, thoughtful, or just a few lines that make you pause for a moment.

Stop by the library and find a poem worth taking home. 📚

📚 International Read to Me Day

Did you know one of the best ways for kids to build confidence in reading… is by reading out loud?

Reading aloud helps children improve fluency, pronunciation, and comprehension. But it can feel a lot less scary when the audience is friendly and low-pressure.

That’s why many kids love reading to:
🐶 A family pet
👨‍👩‍👧 A parent or grandparent
🧸 Even a favorite stuffed animal

Pets never interrupt, stuffed animals never judge, and parents get a front-row seat to watch their reader grow stronger and more confident with every page.

So today, grab a book and invite a young reader to share a story out loud. A few minutes of reading together can make a big difference. 📖💙

Need a good book to start with? Stop by the library—we’d love to help!

📝 March 14 is National Write Your Story Day!

Everyone has a story worth telling. Yes, even you.

Maybe it’s the story of how you survived dial-up internet.
Or how your family recipe for chili has very strong opinions about beans.
Or the time you said “I’ll just run into the store for one thing” and came out 45 minutes later with snacks, a candle, and absolutely not the thing you went in for.

Your story doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be yours.

So today, take a few minutes to write down a memory, a life lesson, or that family story everyone argues about at Thanksgiving. Future generations will thank you… and possibly fact-check you. 😉

Need inspiration? The library has plenty of books to help you get started. And who knows—maybe one day your story will be on our shelves! 📚

✏️ March 8 is National Proofreading Day! 📚

You know that moment when you reread something and suddenly notice a typo that’s been staring at you the whole time? Yeah… us too. 😅

In honor of National Proofreading Day, take a minute to look over that email, post, paper, or text before you hit send. Your future self will thank you.

After all, proofreading can be the difference between:

“Let’s eat, Grandma!”

and

“Let’s eat Grandma.” 👀

Libraries love words… and we love them even more when they’re spelled correctly. 😉

Stop by the library this week to pick up your next great read—and remember: even the best writers need a good proofread!

February 26th is National Tell a Fairy Tale Day! ✨

Once upon a time, stories were shared to teach lessons, spark imagination, and bring people together—and they still do today.

From brave heroes and clever heroines to magical creatures and enchanted forests, fairy tales remind us that courage, kindness, and a little bit of wonder can change everything.

Visit the library to rediscover old favorites or find a new tale to share. And if you have gently used fairy tale books at home, consider donating them to the Friends of the Library—so the magic can continue for another reader.

Because every great story deserves to be told again. 📚🧚

We welcome gently used donations of:
• Fiction and nonfiction books
