Salida residents have an important decision to make as you mark your ballot for the June 2 Primary. Measure J is asking Salida Fire Protection District to support a new special tax to keep our fire district going. Here is something to ponder as you are deciding how to vote on Measure J. Insurance companies use the Insurance Services Office (ISO) to determine a community's Public Protection Classification (PPC), commonly known as an IOS score. The cost of your homeowners insurance is directly tied to ISO scores. Your ISO score evaluates your local fire department, 1 being the best and 10 being the worst. This determines part of the cost for your homeowners insurance. Communities with staffed full time fire stations receive lower scores because response times are better. Right now Salida is considered a 2. This is good. It keeps our homeowners insurance low. If Station 12 goes away, it’s gone folks. Forever. We aren’t getting it back. Every homeowner’s annual insurance policy will spike. A community being served by a distant fire station (from Modesto or County Consolidated) will cause your ISO score to go up which will increase your annual homeowner’s insurance. Because response times can be slower, your home is considered a higher risk, which typically results in higher annual premiums. So, are you still worried about being asked to pay that additional $168 per year? Please think about this carefully.
