Statement on Standing for Our Immigrant Neighbors and Upholding American Values

In these images you will find the statement from the Wicomico Democratic Central Committee translated in English, Haitian-Creole, and Spanish.

Statement Below:

The Wicomico County Democratic Central Committee believes deeply in the fundamental principles that define the American spirit: dignity, fairness, inclusion, and the belief that hard work deserves respect.

At its best, our nation is built on the promise that people from all walks of life can come together, contribute through honest labor, and build a stronger community for their children. Today, we reaffirm our commitment to those core values by explicitly rejecting xenophobia and scapegoating in all its forms.

Our Haitian neighbors, along with other immigrant communities throughout our region, are indispensable to Wicomico’s success. They are doing the hard, essential work that keeps Wicomico running. Sustaining our agricultural industries, driving small business growth, raising families, and enriching our local culture. Their contributions are a testament to the American work ethic, not a threat to it.

We also call upon our local elected officials and media outlets to not turn a blind eye to what is happening right here in our own backyard. Leaders and journalists alike have a responsibility to look closely at the reality of our immigrant communities to highlight their contributions, acknowledge their challenges, and reject rhetoric that seeks to divide us. Ignoring these dynamics or allowing harmful narratives to go unchecked does a disservice to all residents.

The Wicomico County Democratic Central Committee stands firmly alongside our immigrant neighbors. We remain dedicated to protecting American ideals, rejecting division, and fostering a county where every person is valued, respected, and given the opportunity to thrive.

Happy Birthday to our Chair, Sonya Whited! 🎂💙

Over the past year, Sonya has helped rebuild the Wicomico County Democratic Central Committee into an organization focused on doing what a local Democratic Party should do: organizing year-round, supporting our candidates, raising the resources to compete, and bringing Democrats across Wicomico County together.

And she isn’t slowing down.

This November, we have an incredible opportunity to elect Democrats up and down the ballot and flip Wicomico County blue for the first time in over 20 years.

So, in honor of Sonya’s birthday, will you help us continue the work she has helped lead?

🎁 Chip in $10, $25, $50 or whatever you can to help us elect Democrats across Wicomico County this November.

Every dollar helps us knock more doors, reach more voters, support our Democratic candidates, and build the organization we need to win.

The first poll of the 2026 General Election is out, and Governor Wes Moore is starting strong! 🇺🇸

Governor Moore has a +17 net approval rating and leads his Republican opponent by 27 points.

Governor Moore’s mission is clear: keep putting in the work, leave no community behind, and make sure Marylanders can feel the progress being made across our state.

Here in Wicomico County, we’re taking that mission one step further.

We won’t stop working until we flip Wicomico BLUE.

Want to show your support for Governor Moore? Request your FREE Wes Moore yard sign today, and we’ll deliver it to you!

We 💙 this picture. A post from Schoolboard Candidate

With 5,818 valid signatures, Mayor Randy Taylor’s effort to strip collective bargaining rights from our first responders and city workers is now headed to the ballot, where the people of Salisbury will have the final say.

The Democratic Party has long stood with organized labor because we know unions built the middle class. Here in Wicomico County, we proudly stand with our firefighters, police officers, city workers, and every working family.

This victory would not have been possible without the incredible coalition of volunteers, labor unions, and community members who came together to defend workers’ rights.

We are especially proud that members of our Democratic team played a key role in this effort:

Wicomico Democratic Central Committee member Jared Schablein partnered with AFSCME Maryland and the Salisbury Career Fire Fighters Local 4246 to help initiate the petition drive.

Our Vice Chair, Desmond Stuart, spent countless hours knocking on doors and collecting signatures.

County Council candidate Megan Outten and Erin Patterson for District 4 knocked doors across there district to help qualify the referendum.

Democratic nominee for State Delegate in District 38B, Councilman Josh Hastings, also hit the streets to gather signatures and stand with working families.

We also want to thank Salisbury City Councilmembers Councilmember Michele Gregory and Angela Blake for District 5 for voting against this legislation from the very beginning and standing with our first responders and city employees.

Yesterday was an important victory for democracy. Soon, Salisbury voters will have the opportunity to reject this anti-worker proposal once and for all.

The Wicomico County Democratic Central Committee stands with our first responders, our city workers, and the collective bargaining rights they have earned. We look forward to defeating this dangerous measure at the ballot box.

Yesterday, the SUP Shop brought people together for a powerful day of service, compassion, and unity. The Wicomico Democrats are immensely proud of our dedicated candidates, our hard-working committee, and especially the SUP Shop—an incredible organization that personifies the core Democratic mission: Support for ALL.

Our candidates rolled up their sleeves to serve:
Dan Schwartz for Congress, Lana Foley for Wicomico Sheriff, and Megan Outten for District 7 County Council kicked off the day by serving hot coffee and breakfast to early visitors, followed by lunch for our guests.

Demetria Marshall, founder of the SUP Shop, and candidate for Judge of the Orphans' Court, hosted a blessing table outside, offering support, warmth, and encouragement to all who stopped by.

Thanks to the dedication of our candidates, volunteers, and generous donors, over 300 pounds of food were distributed to local families and individuals in need!

Yesterday proved once again what we can accomplish when we show up for one another with open hearts and a shared commitment to community care.

Thank you to everyone who made yesterday such a huge success! Together, we are building a stronger, more supportive community for all.
