Backstrap wanted me to remind his friends in San Antonio that we are hosting Needles and Nonsense events starting Tuesday, August 4th, which is also National Wildlife Day here at Petri's Place.

Bring your needlework, diamond art, coloring or any portable craft project and come hang out on Tuesday.

Meet Orion 💫✨️💖

He is a very young leucistic opossum. He at the moment is pretty underweight but hydrated again.

Unfortunately, he will need a little fattening up and some treatment for anemia (fleas were bad) and some patches of hair missing due to fleas and sticker burs in his fur against his skin.

Leucistic is a lack of pigmentation in the skin leaving the eyes dark and in the case of opossums, the ears can be as well. This causes the animal some concerns with camouflage and sun damage to their skin.

Orion will be with us for a while and possibly become a permanent resident. We will host a special fundraiser for his care soon!

Join us at the sanctuary for Petri’s Place Nocturnal Nights: Sunset To Summer

We’re lighting up the night with auctions and raffles — plus some special appearances by our nocturnal friends. Let’s celebrate these misunderstood critters with an evening of food, fun and possibley some furry bebes! (wild ones that roam the property freely)

Here's what to expect:
BYOB & Picnic: Bring your favorite bottle of wine, beer or other beverage, along with a picnic basket filled with your preferred snacks. (Charcuterie anyone???)
We'll provide tables and chairs scattered throughout our scenic sanctuary, perfect for an intimate dinner date with friends or possibly an opossum and surrounded by nature.
Twilight Sightings: As the sun sets, watch our playful wildlife emerge. You'll get a rare glimpse of these fascinating creatures as they begin their nighttime routines of stretching, stealing food, pushing each other off of the swing and trying to steal your hearts, all within the safety and comfort of our sanctuary grounds.

Enchanting (chaotic) Atmosphere: Experience the sounds of raccoon coos and skunks chirping at one another in our outdoor sanctuary. Realistically you'll hear the animals competing in track and field events in their enclosures. Their running wheels will sound like freight trains.

Intimate Gathering: With a limited number of guests per event, the setting feels exclusive and peaceful, allowing you to enjoy your surroundings and the company without the bustle of larger crowds. Truth be told, we have to make sure we know how many of you there are so we don't lose anyone to a raccoon.

Your participation means more than just a delightful evening; it's a direct contribution to our ongoing efforts. We literally cannot do all of this without your support.

Proceeds from "Nocturnal Nights" will help fund the rehabilitation of orphaned and injured wildlife under our care. It’s a chance to support a great cause while enjoying a unique and memorable experience.
