History has its eyes on you. Early voting is underway in our local city council and mayoral election. These elections tend to have low voter turnout, and if you care about policy in our country and state, it is necessary to also vote at the local level. Let’s get out and vote, friends.

County Court at Law No. 1 has canceled all
dockets this week. Attorneys should receive an email from Kevin Curtois, if power and technology allows. Sending out prayers for front line workers and for health, heat, and water to be restored to all in our community as we weather this winter storm. Please check on your neighbors.

Wishing everyone blessings, health and prosperity in 2021.

And there were shepherds lying in the fields keeping watch over their flock by night. And lo, the Angel of the Lord came upon them and the glory of the Lord shone round about them and they were sore afraid. And the Angel said unto them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior, and He is Christ the Lord. This shall be a sign unto you. Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the Angel a multitude of heavenly hosts praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace and good will toward men.”

In 3rd grade, I wanted a singing part in the pageant, but am now very thankful that dear Mrs. Carr gave me that passage from the book of Luke instead. Sending out a very Merry Christmas to all of you that I pray be filled with health, peace and good will.

Happy Hanukkah to many dear friends and loved ones. Blessings for a wonderful and safe holiday season.

Two years ago I was sworn in as Judge of County Court at Law No. 1. What a wonderful journey this has been. I had no idea just how much I was going to love this job. These past months during the pandemic have required an even temperament and keep trying until it works kind of attitude. I have taken over a DWI specialty court this year, and look forward to continuing to work hard for this community. As always, I send out appreciation to my family, friends, and supporters. Thank you.

I just dropped off a special birthday delivery to my beloved court reporter, Gloria. We have been Zooming County Court 1 daily with a 10 a.m. plea docket and a 1:30 p.m. docket for attorneys to confer. Thank you, Gloria- we couldn’t keep these wheels of justice moving without you! Blessings for another year of health and happiness. ♥️

Early voting in the primary runoffs is happening now until July 10th! You can vote at at any poll site with your driver’s license. I voted at the elections office on Frio, and it was quick and easy. There was a first timer in line, and I praised him for voting for the first time in a runoff!

Happy Friday. As many of your have heard, many Bexar County courts are resuming some in-person appearances next week. County Court at Law #1 is planning to remain as remote as possible, utilizing Zoom dockets and hearings for court resolution. My court coordinator will be setting a small number of in-person settings for those who do not have remote capability, however, I hope that the vast majority of court business will continue to be handled remotely for the collective health and safety of our community. In-person appearance will require social distancing and use of a mask. Wishing all of you and those you hold dear good health as we continue to deal with Covid.

In honor and remembrance. Thank you.

Hello Weekend! Running County Court 1 remotely has been keeping me very busy. I want to thank all of the attorneys that have handled cases via Zoom hearings, adapting and keeping the community safe. If you have a pending matter in my court that requires attention, do not hesitate to contact my court coordinator to set up a Zoom. Even as we eventually transition back to some in-person proceedings, I hope that most matters will continue to take place on Zoom until we are all safe from the pandemic. Special thanks to my staff, my in-home tech support (Jerome Stowe), and all of the links in the chain that are keeping the wheels turning.

Wishing you a safe and blessed Good Friday, for those who share in my celebration of Easter, and a joyous Passover to many friends and loved ones. No doubt, this holiday will not be the one we are accustomed to in years past, but I praise you for keeping your dear ones safe.

Good morning Bexar County. Please be advised that CC1 is now working remotely. This morning I participated in a Zoom practice docket, to ready myself, should there be need for a remote hearing. I have also handled several pre-trial case matters and reviewed and authorized more than a dozen orders on probation cases. I would much prefer to be working from my usual office space with my wonderful court staff, but I am joining the at home work force to help ensure that we get back to normal as soon as possible. I urge all to stay home that can. For those of you on the front lines: law enforcement, health professionals, those in the grocery and pharmacy industry- you have my prayers and my utmost respect. Please take care and stay safe.
