Criminals and grifters are unfortunately pretty much everywhere, but churches tend to attract them like flies to a picnic. I don't know how many times i've heard of the good christian , who starts at a new church and convinces people to invest in his company , only to find that their life savings is wiped out in a ponzi screenI don't know how many times I've heard of the "good Christian" who starts at a new church and convinces people to invest in his company, only for them to find that their life savings is wiped out in a Ponzi scheme. Indeed, Bernie Madoff was held in high regard in the Jewish community, with many people investing with him because he promised high yields and claimed to have strong religious values.
