This is so tragic. Pierre Damas Bel – a college student, athlete, and JROTC cadet – had his whole life ahead of him but felt there was no way out after the Trump Administration revoked his Temporary Protected Status. Pierre and his family deserved better.

Pierre Damas Bel’s family said he took his own life on a busy highway after the Trump administration canceled protections for thousands of Haitian immigrants and ICE officers placed him in an ankle monitor.

Under Secretary Pete Hegseth, at least 20 generals, admirals, and civilian defense leaders have left their positions or been fired. Black and women officers have been disproportionately removed from promotion lists. Pushing out these qualified leaders hurts our military.

For a year, Trump has authorized the murders of at least 227 people at sea. The president doesn’t have the right to kill anyone he says is guilty without due process. When Democrats are in charge, we will block funding and investigate these murders.

Today marks one year since the United States began an unlawful campaign of lethal military strikes targeting vessels in the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean, claiming 227 lives. US officials should be urgently held to account for these killings, Human Rights Watch said today.

I’m relieved that the USS Abraham Lincoln has made it to Thailand, and I’m looking forward to welcoming them home in San Diego soon. But we still need answers about this extended deployment and accountability to prevent this crisis from happening again.

The USS Abraham Lincoln is expected to stay in port for four to five days, then continue its journey home.

It was great to join Park Ranger Elias and the Friends of Ruffin Canyon for a clean up of the Taft native plant garden in Serra Mesa. We cleaned up trash and pulled up some invasive species in order to protect the native ecosystem!
