With Canada Day just around the corner, there's no better time to get together and celebrate what makes us proud to be Canadian — even from sunny San Diego!

So, come join us on Saturday, June 27th, at Liberty Station NTC for our Canada Day Picnic, and let's make some memories with the best community this side of the 49th parallel.

We've got a full picnic slate planned:
🌽 Provincial Co****le Tournament — pick your province and bring the heat - kicked off with the National Anthem, of course!

Hey Canadians in San Diego — it's "Community & Culture" time! 🍁

🌊 CANADA VS CALIFORNIA: THE STATS THAT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND

In honour of being Canadians living in the most populous US state, let's talk numbers:

👥 POPULATION:
Canada: ~41 million people
California: ~39 million people
Same. Basically the same. Canada is an entire G7 country. California is one state. And they have almost the same number of people.

📐 SIZE:
Canada: 9.98 million km²
California: 424,000 km²
Canada is 25 TIMES larger than California.

So Canada has the same population as California… spread across 25 times the space. This explains the long drives. This explains everything.

💰 ECONOMY:
California's GDP (~$3.9 trillion USD) is larger than Canada's entire economy (~$2.3 trillion USD). If California were a country, it would be one of the top 5 economies in the world.

🎬 BOTH HAVE A "HOLLYWOOD":
Los Angeles: Hollywood
Vancouver, BC: "Hollywood North" — the 3rd largest film production hub in North America

🍣 THE TWIST:
The California roll — the sushi staple at literally every grocery store in California — was invented in Vancouver by Canadian chef Hidekazu Tojo in 1974. He named it "California" to appeal to American tourists. You're welcome, California.

Calling all Canadians and Canada lovers in San Diego — it's time to break out your red and white and celebrate the greatest country on Earth (don't @ us 🇨🇦😄)!

📅 When: Saturday, June 27th , starting at 11:00 AM
📍 Where: Liberty Station Park, NTC — San Diego

Last year we had 90 incredible Canadians and friends come together for an unforgettable afternoon, and this year we want to make it even BIGGER and better!

Here's how you can help make it amazing:
🍽️ Bring a dish to share — poutine, butter tarts, Nanaimo bars, or your favourite potluck specialty (yes, non-Canadian food is welcome too 😉)
⛺ Bring a popup tent — San Diego sun is no joke, even for us hearty Canadians!
🪑 Bring a table and/or chairs — the more the merrier!
🎲 Bring your favourite lawn games — bocce, co****le, frisbee, spikeball — let's get competitive!

Whether you're a proud Canadian expat, married to one, or just really love maple syrup — you belong here! 🍁

We had a great hike around Lake Hodges today. It was warm during the first leg, but we took a route right on the waters edge back, which made it much nicer.

Grabbing lunch with some additional friends and Canadians at Stone brewery. Always a great time.

Good morning all and happy Friday! Just a reminder that we have a hike going on tomorrow at Lake Hodges. Immediately followed by lunch at Stone brewery (11:15).

You should all come out and get your steps in before it gets too warm. At least that’s what the San Diegans say.

Hey Canadians in San Diego — it's "Community & Culture" time! 🍁

👨‍👧 FATHER'S DAY IS JUNE 21 — AND IT'S THE SAME IN BOTH COUNTRIES 🎉

Good news: no calendar confusion this year. Canada and the US both celebrate Father's Day on the third Sunday of June.

BUT — a few things your San Diego dad friends won't understand about your Canadian Father's Day traditions:

🏒 Back home, Father's Day is deeply intertwined with hockey playoffs. Depending on the year, your dad was either celebrating a Stanley Cup win or silently mourning a first-round exit. Both involved a lot of chips.
🌿 Lawn mowing. Father's Day in Canada coincidentally falls right when the lawn becomes a jungle after the spring melt. Dad's gift was often… doing the lawn with him.
🍺 The BBQ fired up regardless of weather. Rain, cold, threatening clouds — none of it mattered. Dad had tongs and a mission.
☀️ The nice thing about celebrating here? The weather actually cooperates. Every single year.

Shoutout to all the Canadian Dads in San Diego — raising kids who say "eh" and "sorry" in a city full of sunshine. That takes a special kind of strength. 💪
