Today was all about getting started: reconnecting with colleagues, meeting new faces, diving into Communities of Practice, and setting the stage for the conversations and learning still to come.

What a way to kick off the summer.

To every educator, student emcee, AVID alum, speaker, presenter, volunteer, and staff member who showed up ready to learn, connect, and grow: thank you. Over the last week, we were reminded why this work matters and what makes the AVID community so special.

From inspiring conversations and powerful stories to new ideas and lasting connections, the energy across our first Summer Institute cities was incredible. We’re grateful to everyone who helped make this first week such a success.

The journey is just getting started, and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the summer brings.

From one classroom in San Diego to schools and communities across the state, AVID’s California roots continue to grow stronger every year.

This week, AVID Summer Institute Sacramento and AVID Day at the Capitol bring together educators, students, alumni, and leaders to celebrate the power of opportunity and student success.

California is now home to more than 37,000 AVID-trained educators and more than 60 AVID National Demonstration Schools helping students prepare for college, career, and leadership.

To the educators wrapping up graduations, cleaning classrooms, celebrating students, and finally taking a well-earned breath: we see you.

June is a season of endings and beginnings. A time to reflect on the lives changed this school year, celebrate the milestones, and step into summer with fresh energy for what’s ahead.

And for many of us, it also means Summer Institute season is here!

New ideas. New connections. Fresh inspiration. A chance to recharge before the next chapter begins.

“Even though students may not see the effects immediately, it does have long-lasting effects in the future.”

Otto knows this firsthand. After joining AVID as a student, becoming an AVID tutor, and now serving as both a teacher and AVID coordinator, his story is proof that the impact of AVID doesn’t stop at graduation. 💙

The educator who introduced him to AVID changed the trajectory of his life, and now, he’s helping do the same for students in his own school community.
