A young California sea lion was recently rescued from Alcatraz Island by The Marine Mammal Center (California) volunteers. The sea lion pup, aptly named “Al Catraz”, was reported by park rangers who saw him on a dock, looking like he needed a bit of help. The young pup was severely underweight and weak, and he couldn’t eat on his own. The Center staff had to tube-feed him a fish milkshake formula at first so he could gain the needed weight.
Now, he’s livelier and can eat fish on his own. He will be cared for and looked after for a few more weeks before being released back into the wild!
