🏆 Big progress. Strong Results. Jacket Pride! 🏆

Lee County High School has plenty to celebrate in the 2025-2026 School Performance Grades. The school saw a SEVEN point increase in its overall School Performance Score and improved to a “C” School!

The Yellow Jackets also recorded their highest academic growth in more than a decade while increasing student proficiency by 5.3% – a strong sign of the momentum building across campus.

Congratulations to the students, staff, families and the entire Lee County High community for the hard work behind these gains. Keep climbing, Jackets! 💙💛

🎉Greenwood Elementary is thriving! 🎉

The 2025-2026 School Performance Grades brought plenty to celebrate for the Greenwood Hornets. The school saw a SEVEN point increase in overall performance, moved up to a “B” School Designation, and increased student proficiency 7.6%!

Most importantly, Greenwood met expected student growth, reflecting the steady progress students are making thanks to the hard work and commitment of teachers, staff, students, and families.

Congratulations to the entire Greenwood Elementary community on an outstanding year of growth and achievement! Join us in celebrating their work!

🎉 FIVE TO ZERO! A Historic Academic Turnaround for Lee County Schools

Lee County Schools is celebrating a major milestone as NCDPI released School Performance Grades today: all 14 graded schools improved, and the district now has ZERO schools designated as low-performing! 👏🎉

Just one year ago, five schools carried that designation. Today, all five have exited - making LCS one of just 24 public school districts in our state with no low-performing schools, and the only district in the Sandhills region to reach zero.

The progress goes even further:
📈 Six schools improved by at least one full letter grade.
⭐ 11 of 14 graded schools met or exceeded expected academic growth.
🚀 East Lee Middle School gained 14 points overall - the district’s largest increase.
🎓 The district’s graduation rate reached 89.2%, higher than the statewide rate.

These results reflect the dedication of students, teachers, staff, administrators, and families across Lee County. While this is an important milestone, the work continues in each of our local public schools.

At J. Glenn Edwards Elementary, helping students grow starts with supporting the teachers who serve them every day.

Meet Dana Mazurowski and Maggie Womble, JGE’s Instructional Support Team. From analyzing student data and providing interventions to coaching teachers and supporting classroom instruction, Dana and Maggie work together to help students become stronger readers while helping teachers see the impact of their hard work.

Their goal is simple: support the people who support students. ♥️

The future is being built by our students - and today, they helped open the door to it.

Student leaders at J. Glenn Edwards had the honor of cutting the ribbon to officially open the new 12-classroom pod at Edwards Elementary, which will be called “The Academy,” and creates even more space for students to learn, grow, collaborate, and dream big.

This moment in held in front of school, civic leaders, and classmates is about more than a new learning space. It is about putting students first and investing in the opportunities they need to thrive today and prepare for tomorrow.

When we give students a voice, a place to lead, and an environment designed around their success, we’re not just building classrooms – we’re building the future. 🚀

Every dollar counts and the LCS Maintenance Department is making every one go further.

With just 15 employees, this team keeps 17 campuses running, completes construction and renovation projects, responds to hundreds of work orders, and tackles preventative maintenance - all while helping the district save money.

From preparing the new Classroom Pod at J. Glenn Edwards to building storage sheds, renovating office spaces, and catching small problems before they become expensive repairs, their work makes a big difference for students and staff.

As Director of Maintenance Chris McNeill puts it, “It’s really more about saving on the little things, stretching those dollars.”

🌟Well-Being Wednesday: A Place Where Every Student Belongs 🌟

Lee County Schools are committed to being places where every student feels seen, valued, connected, and that they belong. 💙

During the first week of classes, students at Deep River Elementary School came together to create a beautiful handprint mural. The mural is a colorful reminder that every student brings something unique and important to our school community. Each hand represents a voice, a story, and a place in the larger picture.

Whole student wellness begins when students know they belong and that sense of belonging makes them better positioned to learn, grow, build relationships, and thrive.

Here’s to making every classroom, hallway, and school a place where every student has a place to belong.

Due to power issues impacting the cafeteria and several other parts of the building, Tramway Elementary will be closed to students on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. It will be an optional workday for staff.
