The rumor is that the POA, a special interest group that spends heavily on elections, has already selected Cory Morgan to be the next Santa Clara Chief of Police. The POA will pressure everyone else to drop out like they did to Assistant Chief of Police Dan Winter. This will propel Morgan (who is a lieutenant) above captains and assistant chiefs of police who are currently his superiors. Santa Clarans deserve the most experienced and qualified person to lead the department. Measure B will accomplish this with a professional hiring process with performance metrics.

Vote yes on Measures A and B that take politics out of hiring top cop and city clerk, make them appointed positions.

With strong support from the Asian Law Alliance and the Silicon Valley Chapter of the NAACP, passing Measure B will actually save the taxpayers of Santa Clara money in the long run. While measures A and B cost the City about $500K, we will save at least $300K every 4 years by avoiding the cost of printing ballots even when there is only one candidate as has been the case in 6 of the last 9 elections. Of course, the main reason for passing the measures is to get more experienced and better trained people in the positions of Chief of Police and City Clerk rather than politicians.

Miles Barber writes another great Milestones concerning how best to find our next Chief of Police when Pat Nikolai retires this year. In the latest FPPC election spending reports, the POA (a special interest group) spent $47,829 to date to oppose Measure B compared to our grassroots effort that spent only $2,673.

Here's a great explanation from Miles Barber about the issues in the race for Measure B to appoint our Chief of Police like EVERY other City in California does. We deserve the most highly qualified Chief of Police not people with no management experience.

Publisher Miles Barber says now that the Super Bowl is done, it's time to look toward the March 5 election and what it means for Santa Clara.
