What a wonderful day at the Santa Clarita Senior Expo!
SOS: Serving Our Seniors was proud to be part of this event, connecting with seniors, families, caregivers, and community members from across the Santa Clarita Valley.

One of our favorite parts of the Expo is seeing so many organizations come together in one place to share resources, answer questions, and help people find the support they need. From healthcare and housing to financial planning, home care, hospice, and more, the Expo highlighted the strength of our local senior community.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, shared their stories, asked questions, and took the time to learn more about SOS. πŸ’™

πŸ’™ ASK SOS is a Q&A series where our trusted SOS members answer real questions from our community.

In this episode, Shani Cho of Golden Time Hospice explains the difference between palliative care and hospice care.

While both focus on improving quality of life, palliative care can be provided alongside curative treatments, such as surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation. Hospice care, on the other hand, focuses on comfort and support when curative treatment is no longer the goal.

Understanding the difference can help patients and families make informed decisions and access the support that best meets their needs during different stages of care.

In this episode, Mara Gonzalez of Griswold Home Care for Santa Clarita explains the types of services home care providers can offer to help clients remain safe, comfortable, and independent.

Home care services generally fall into three categories: personal care, homemaking, and companionship. Depending on an individual's needs, support may include assistance with daily activities, meal preparation, light housekeeping, transportation, medication reminders, and companionship.

Understanding the different types of support available can help seniors and families make informed decisions about care and aging in place.

πŸ’™ ASK SOS is a Q&A series where our trusted SOS members answer real questions from our community.

In this episode, John Evarts of California Leasing Property Management explains why homeowners insurance may need to change when converting a home into a rental property.

Many homeowners are surprised to learn that renting out a property often requires a different type of insurance policy, commonly known as a landlord or non-owner occupied policy. John also shares why it’s important to review insurance coverage, umbrella policies, and costs before a tenant moves in.

Planning ahead and understanding these details can help homeowners avoid unexpected issues and feel more prepared throughout the rental process.
