🌿 National Trails Day 2026 was one for the books! 🌿
A huge shoutout to SCMTS || Trail Stewardship for organizing another incredible National Trails Day and bringing our community together to care for the trails we all love.
Thanks to their leadership—and the dedication of volunteers, partners, and trail advocates across Santa Cruz County—this year’s event was the biggest yet, with 244 volunteers contributing more than 1,020 hours of stewardship work across local trail systems.
Together, volunteers:
🥾 Brushed and maintained over 20,500 feet of trail
💧 Cleaned 94 drainage features
🌱 Removed dozens of bags of invasive plants, including English ivy and French broom
🗑️ Removed 63 bags of trash, 12 abandoned bikes, shopping carts, propane tanks, and other debris from the Pogonip Creek watershed
🌉 Rebuilt bridge approaches, repaired berms and trail features, painted gates, cleaned signage, and replaced a bike repair stand!
From Emma McCrary and Arana Gulch to DeLaveaga, Pogonip, Harvey West, and the University Connector, volunteers made a lasting impact on trails that thousands of residents and visitors enjoy every year.
We are grateful to Santa Cruz Trails for creating opportunities for community members to give back, connect with nature, and help preserve these incredible outdoor spaces for everyone to enjoy.
Thank you to every volunteer who showed up, got their hands dirty, and made a difference. Together, we’re building a stronger, more connected trail community. 💚🥾🚵

🌱 A huge thank you to our amazing community partners for supporting the garden!
🪵 John Lewis Tree Service donated eucalyptus rounds that will help us create a community learning space in the garden.
🪱 Alta donated burlap sacks that we’ll be repurposing for our worm composting efforts.
🌿 And a special thank you to Sean Robert for donating worms to our Beach Flats Kids Garden Club, helping us build healthy compost and enrich our garden ecosystem.
We’re so grateful for these contributions and for the community members who help our garden grow, learn, and thrive together. 💚
