New Mexico fuel and energy prices continue to show a clear cost difference between gasoline and electric vehicles.
According to AAA and the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the average price of regular unleaded gasoline in New Mexico is $4.46 per gallon, while residential electricity averages $0.1481 per kWh.
Based on typical driving assumptions, EV drivers generally spend less to travel the same distance compared to gas-powered vehicles:
• Toyota Camry: ~$57.99 per fill-up
• Hyundai IONIQ 6: ~$28.75 in electricity
• Honda CR-V: ~$62.45 per fill-up
• Tesla Model Y: ~$24.12 in electricity
• Ford F-150: ~$102.60 per fill-up
• Rivian R1T: ~$39.30 in electricity
Actual costs vary based on driving habits, vehicle type, and charging method. While federal clean vehicle tax credits have changed, New Mexico continues to offer state EV incentives of up to $3,000 for new EVs and up to $2,500 for used EVs through EMNRD for qualifying purchases through 2030.
