The New Mexico Corrections Department encomp

asses both Adult Prisons and Probation and Parole. The Adult Prisons Division (APD) operates 8 correctional institutions and oversees 2 privately operated locations with a housing capacity of just under 8,000. Each facility provides case management, behavioral health, medical services, education, and vocational opportunities. The Adult Prisons Division is dedicated to ensuing our prisons are operated with a priority of public safety while also providing opportunities for those entrusted to our care with evidence-based programming to modify behavior for successful reentry back into society. The Adult Prisons Division oversees the Health Services Bureau and Office of Offender Management Services. The Probation and Parole Division (PPD) operates 5 regions made up of 46 district offices throughout New Mexico. Sagebrush Church recently hosted its quarterly bingo event the Central New Mexico Correctional Facilityโ€™s Geriatric Unit, with 50 inmates participating. ๐Ÿ‘

This engaging activity not only enhances cognitive functions and promotes socialization, but it also improves hand-eye coordination. Also importantly, it creates opportunities for meaningful connections, helping to alleviate the isolation that many seniors face.

Sagebrush Church hosted a unique Fatherโ€™s Day event for staff and inmates at the Central New Mexico Correctional Facilityโ€™s Level 1 Farm in Los Lunas.

Attendees enjoyed uplifting music, games, and summertime-themed snacks. ๐Ÿ‰ โ˜€๏ธ

This event fostered a day of community connection, unity, and inspiration. Every inmate housed at this location attended, which is more than 300 men. Through events like this, the goal is to change hearts, which can then hopefully have ripple effects into other areas of a personโ€™s life.

Today, we recognize Juneteenth as a day of reflection, remembrance, and unity.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Texas learned they were free, more than two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.

In observance of the holiday, our administrative offices are closed today and will reopen Monday.

The Be Pro, Be Proud mobile workshop is visiting our prison facilities, offering inmates a valuable chance to explore high-demand trade careers through immersive virtual reality simulators.

These simulators enable participants to experience hands-on training in fields such as welding, plumbing, HVAC, heavy equipment operation, electrical work, and carpentry.

Inmate ambassadors were chosen at each stop, to lead their peers through the workshops.

Providing experiences like these is important for our incarcerated population and aligns with our departmentโ€™s goal of enhancing public safety. Keep in mind, approximately 96% of our inmates, will eventually become our neighbors. So, by inspiring and equipping them with valuable vocational skills while they are incarcerated, we increase their chances of success in the community.

Be Pro, Be Proud is a national initiative, and here in New Mexico, itโ€™s championed by the New Mexico Chamber of Commerce Foundation and the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions.

๐ŸŽ‰ 40 inmates recently graduated from the Intensive Outpatient Program at Central New Mexico Correctional Facilityโ€™s Level I Farm. ๐Ÿ‘

This program focuses on building healthy ways to address behavioral issues and substance use disorders.

During the course of the 12-week program, the participants utilize journaling, group talk sessions, and The Change Companies Atlas app on their tablets. The Atlas app allows incarcerated individuals to engage in meaningful programming, on their own time.

Across the state, dozens of inmate self-help groups provide New Mexico Corrections Department inmates with opportunities to develop leadership skills, support one another, and contribute to meaningful causes that theyโ€™re passionate about.

These peer-led groups organize fundraisers throughout the year and even elect their own leadership, including presidents and treasurers. A requirement for these groups, is that they must donate a portion of the funds they raise to local groups and charities.

Recently, the self-help groups at Central New Mexico Correctional Facility in Los Lunas donated more than $21,000.๐Ÿ‘

โ€ข Krystal Anderson ( #524400), Angelique Sanchez ( #483460), and Elfido Martinez ( #456187) were arrested by the Albuquerque Police Department

โ€ข Mark Martinez ( #534750) is currently incarcerated in California
