The City of Sapulpa's Parks and Recreation Department is continually striving to keep pace with the challenge of growth and being asked to take on more responsibilities, continue to provide "quality" parks and recreation facilities and programs that meet the ever-changing leisure needs of the Sapulpa Community. The Parks & Recreation Department currently has 21 parks and recreation facility areas

under its jurisdiction. They include: parks, lakes, an aquatic center, splash pad, recreation center, senior citizen's community center, playgrounds, sand volleyball, tennis and basketball courts, baseball and softball fields, campgrounds, etc. totaling 410 acres, which are in varying stages of development. City parks range in function and size from small, one-acre tot lots to a large youth sports complex. The Department also manages and maintains two City lakes with approximately 369 surface acres of water, which are utilized by the Community for outdoor boating, camping, fishing, and hunting activities.

Happy Saturday from lakes Sahoma and Pretty Water!

End of August Fishing Update: Check out what's been biting! Successful lures/baits have been minnows, jigs, worms, cut panfish, and stinky dough bait. The water temp is currently 82 degrees with water visibility standing around a medium level between stained and dingy. As fall draws nearer with cooler mornings and evenings, the fish are becoming more active -- perfect conditions for a weekend of bank or boat fishing!

Citywide fishing permits -- in addition to state licenses -- are required to fish both lakes, and permits are available at the Lake Sahoma Bait Shop along with minnows, worms, light tackle, drinks and snacks. While you visit our beautiful lakes, remember to keep our waterways clean and dispose of any trash in the designated dumpsters. Happy fishing!

Reader and Sapulpa resident Daryl Howard sent in this photo of amazing timing at Sahoma Lake. He was attempting to get a picture of the ducks swimming when a fish leapt from the water and photobombed the shot.

Just in case you hadn't noticed, it finally got HOT! πŸ₯΅And next week, it's supposed to be even HOTTER! πŸ”₯

For the health and safety of our guests (especially our youngest and older guests!) and employees, we're preparing for modified hours during really, really hot days. Please check our page Sapulpa Aquatics Center each evening to see if we'll be on modified hours the next day.

(Yes, you would think that going to the pool would cool you off, but when the water temperature is about 95 F, the concrete is hot, the water is reflecting the sun, and there's no shade.....)

If you're looking for somewhere to take the kids that IS nice and cool, we keep the thermostat at about 72-73 F in the Community Center...just sayin' 😏

In other lake news, Hunting Permits go on sale this week! You can purchase them online at SapulpaOK.RecDesk.com under "Memberships", visit us at the Community Center (515 E Dewey), or Ellie will have them on hand to start selling at the Bait Shop on Saturday. Duck Blind Drawing is Sunday, Aug. 2 at 2 pm and you MUST have a current City Hunting Permit to enter.
