As America celebrates its 250th birthday, I want to wish you and your family a very Happy Fourth of July!

Our nation has overcome tremendous challenges throughout its history because ordinary citizens chose to step forward and make a difference. I believe we are once again at a pivotal moment. While many things are working well, others clearly need our attention. The future of our communities, our state, and our nation depends on each of us doing our part to make tomorrow better than today.

That is why I have been fighting for California's seniors. The 60+ Property Tax Exemption Initiative (ExemptPropertyTax.com) was created to provide meaningful property tax relief and help seniors remain in the homes and communities they helped build.

Unfortunately, we did not collect enough valid signatures by the deadline to qualify the initiative for the November 2026 ballot. While this is disappointing, it has only strengthened our resolve. We are not giving up—we are already preparing for 2028.

Gathering nearly one million valid signatures across a state as large as California is an enormous undertaking. In California during the 2026 initiative cycle, the market rate for professional signature gathering is between $8 to $15. Yes, for each signature!

Today, qualifying a statewide initiative typically requires either a multi-million-dollar campaign or an extraordinary statewide volunteer network. The cost of professional signature gathering has become so high that citizen-led initiatives face a steep uphill battle.

But this is not the end.

We intend to return with the initiative for the 2028 ballot. The current Secretary of State process makes it exceptionally difficult for grassroots movements that lack the financial backing of wealthy donors or special interests. Even so, I remain convinced that California seniors deserve meaningful property tax relief, and I believe this cause is too important to abandon.

Many worthwhile reforms begin long before they become widely accepted. Real change requires patience, perseverance, and the courage to keep moving forward after disappointment.

THANK YOU! Every person who donated, every volunteer who gave their time, every Californian who signed our petition, and every supporter who shared our message helped build awareness that did not exist before. That foundation will continue to grow. I thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Whether people ultimately agree or disagree with our proposal, I hope we can all agree on one thing: California owes its seniors an honest conversation about affordability, fiscal responsibility, and ensuring that those who spent a lifetime building our communities can continue to live in them with dignity.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for believing in this effort. Your encouragement, your trust, and your friendship made every mile traveled, every signature collected, and every long day worthwhile. I may have been the face of this initiative, but this movement belongs to every one of you.

As we celebrate our nation's 250th birthday, let us remember that democracy is not a spectator sport. It has always been shaped by ordinary citizens who refused to give up. I hope you will continue this journey with me as we work toward placing this initiative before the voters in 2028.

Together, we can make a difference.

Land of Free for 250 yrs… and counting! 🎆🎇
So very thankful and blessed to be an American! 🇺🇸

"My mother and father in law, hardworking Californians who bought a chunk of raw land in the mountains in the 80’s and built their own home and infrastructure while also working jobs in town, are in a position of living into their sunset years with the looming threat of running completely out of money, largely due to the increase in property taxes over the years. After over 40 years of pouring their time, energy, and money into improving their land, it feels frankly absurd that their savings will be completely drained due to paying astronomical property taxes. This is a time of life when our elders should be reaping the rewards of their hard work and resting at home, yet my 76 year old mother in law is continuing to go to work every day to help stretch their savings to last a little longer. "

Are We Really Going to Let Seniors Be Taxed Out of Their Homes?
This is something I can’t ignore anymore.
Across California — especially here in Silicon Valley — I’m seeing a painful reality unfold. The very people who built our communities… who raised families here… who worked their entire lives… are now struggling just to stay in their own homes.
Not because they made bad choices.
Not because they didn’t plan.
But because property taxes keep rising… while their income does not.
Imagine this:
You’ve paid off your home after decades of hard work. You retire. You’re living on Social Security or a fixed income. And suddenly, the cost just to stay in your home keeps going up — year after year.
At some point, it becomes unbearable.
And then what?
We’re seeing it happen already — seniors being pushed out, forced to sell, or worse… slipping into homelessness. In fact, seniors are one of the fastest-growing homeless populations in California.
That should stop all of us in our tracks.
But there is hope.
There’s a ballot initiative for 2026 — the 60+ Property Tax Exemption Act — that would protect the primary residence of homeowners aged 60 and above.
This means:
No more being taxed out of the home you already paid for
No more choosing between food, medicine, and property taxes
No more fear of losing everything late in life
This is not about politics.
This is about dignity. Fairness. Humanity.
Our seniors deserve to age in place, not be pushed out by a system that no longer works for them.
This is where you come in.
If this resonates with you — even a little — please take a moment today:

Every signature matters. Every voice matters.
Because once seniors lose their homes… we don’t get that back.
Let’s stand up for the people who spent their lives building the communities we now call home.
Let’s take care of our own.

He should be retired. Instead, he was delivering food late at night so he and his wife could eat.

A doorbell camera captured Richard struggling to complete a DoorDash delivery. The video went viral because millions of seniors are just one lost paycheck away from the same reality.

Thankfully, people stepped up. Donations poured in and Richard is now able to retire again — a testament to the good heart of our community.

But charity alone can’t solve this problem. Seniors deserve stability and financial relief. Rising property taxes are pushing many out of the homes they worked their whole lives to own.

Seniors deserve to age with dignity in their own homes. It’s time to exempt homeowners age 60 and over from property tax payments.
Eligibility: Age is the primary eligibility criterion.
Anyone registered to vote in California can sign this petition - you do NOT need to be 60+ to sign
https://www.exemptpropertytax.com/. Exemption applies only to a primary residence and to anyone domiciled in CA for 10 years or who has occupied their home for at least 5 years. At least one individual on the title must be 60+ to qualify for the exemption.

16 states have launched property tax reform. Together, let's get California going! Citizen-led initiatives are difficult; unfortunately we have to follow the rules of engagement. Please understand that the petition format is not something we created arbitrarily. The multi-page format is required so that the Secretary of State can legally validate the signatures. A single signature page would be rejected - you have to print and mail the first 4 pages. Of course, we would love to do an online change.org campaign for this - but this is not what the Secretary of State mandates. We would never ask supporters to do something incorrectly or submit paperwork that would not be accepted. The petition form has been constructed to ensure we follow all the rules. Our goal is simply to ensure that every signature collected counts.
