Last Week, two of our Field Technicians had the opportunity to assist our partners at Gogebic Conservation District to construct and install "Brush Bundles" to enhance Fish habitat. Brush Bundles can provide cover, food opportunity, and spawning grounds for a diverse range of fish species!

Over the course of two days, a total of fifteen Brush Bundles were strategically placed across three different lakes within the Ottawa National Forest!

Please welcome Elise to the UPRCD team! She's has joined us and will be filling the role of Conservation Coordinator, where she will spearhead various conservation projects across our region.

After graduating from Northern Michigan University in 2013 in zoology, she worked with the Marquette County Conservation District as a conservation intern, and moved on to nearly a decade managing the Lake to Lake CISMA. Pointing out plants when no one asked is a favorite past time, and she has been happy to call the U.P. home for nearly 20 years. She's excited to bring her experience in conservation into a new role, while being able to continue to be involved in protecting her favorite places and species in the Yoop.

One of our BIG projects this Field Season has been surveying and treating Dune and Marsh ecosystems near Lake Michigan in the Upper Peninsula for Invasive Species. The focus for this project is to help protect the vulnerable ecosystems and the rare species that reside within them from the many threats that Invasive Species may pose.

It has been a fantastic Field Season so far with our crew making great progress across our different projects, but no Field Season is complete without collaborating with our local partners.

For the past few weeks our Field Crew has been in different places across the U.P working alongside local partners to help further promote conservation across the region.

For the third year in a row, we have begun enhancing habitat within the Hiawatha National Forest for Sharp-tailed Grouse!

Following a prescribed burn, our crew plants THOUSANDS of Warm Season Grass Plugs sourced from UP-based nurseries Northern Natives Plant Nursery and UP Native Plants to increase cover and forage opportunities for these ground-nesting birds!
