Wings Up: JROTC Takes Flight ✈️

✨ Students from four JROTC programs, located throughout the Low Country of Georgia and South Carolina, got an inside look at the variety of career opportunities within the Air National Guard. During the tour, they explored base facilities, engaged with hands-on static displays, and connected directly with service members to hear their stories and learn of their experiences firsthand.

🤙 The highlight of the experience? Taking to the skies aboard our C-130J Super Hercules for an unforgettable orientation flight.

NEWS || 165th Security Forces member is First Airman to ever compete in Georgia State Best Warrior Competition

As competitors moved through the in-processing line, one participant stood slightly taller than the Soldiers around him - U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Durden is the first Airman to compete in the state Best Warrior Competition, marking a milestone for the event.

NEWS | Just after 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22,2026, the 165th Airlift Wing Fire Department responded to a rapidly spreading brush fire at the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport after an engine issue occurred on a departing commercial aircraft. The aircraft declared an in-flight emergency and safely rerouted to land, while gusts up to 60 mph fueled the fire on the ground.

Working shoulder-to-shoulder in mutual aid with Savannah Fire Department, Pooler Fire-Rescue, Garden City Fire Department and Chatham County EMS, crews quickly contained the blaze and ensured the aircraft and its passengers were safely supported upon landing.

Another real-world example of your Georgia Air National Guard — Always Ready, Always There — serving our community when it matters most.

🚨 EXERCISE NOTICE 🚨

The 165th Airlift Wing will be conducting a Major Accident Response Exercise (MARE) simulating an aircraft mishap on base February 18.

This is NOT a real-world event.
This training is designed to sharpen response times, test emergency procedures, and ensure our Airmen and mission partners remain ready to respond when it matters most.

TURNING UP THE HEAT 🔥

165th firefighters validated their emergency response and life-saving capabilities during our wing-wide employment exercise. Responding to a simulated aircraft fire, they quickly cleared passengers to safety and performed emergency procedures all while operating in gear. These Airmen proved they can stay calm under pressure and save lives, no matter the challenge.
