Phone Scams

There have been more and more phone scams in the area. If someone is calling you saying they are "collecting for local police..." - SCAM! Police will not call you for donations. If you receive a call (this is most common as of late) from someone stating "we are from **police" or "we have a warrant for you, and you must pay $ x amount, go to local store to buy $500 visa cards and call us back with the card numbers..." - SCAM!
-Ways to avoid being scammed: If you don't recognize the number, don't answer. If the caller asks for your name, hang up.
-Try to write down of save the numbers the calls are coming from, you can report them to your phone company/carrier.
-Also, here is a government website to report any and all scams:

https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0208-phone-scams

These tips can help you hang up on a phone scammer and hold onto your money.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Lt. Menard, the Worcester Fire Department, and the entire Worcester community. They remain in our thoughts during this time of loss. Lt. Menard, thank you for your service.

It is with a very heavy heart that Chief Michael Lavoie, City Manager Edward M. Augustus, Jr. and Mayor Petty announce the devastating loss of Lt. Jason Menard, a member of the WFD since 2010 assigned to Ladder 5, Group 2 at McKeon Road Fire Station. Lt. Menard succumbed to his injuries battling a 4 alarm fire on Stockholm Street this morning, Wednesday, November 13. He leaves behind his wife Tina, 3 children & parents. It is an extremely difficult day for the Worcester Fire Department. Lt. Menard and his crew acted selflessly and heroically. Please keep the family of Lt. Menard, his friends and crew in your thoughts and prayers.

From MEMA:

The system issues that caused sporadic 911 outages throughout the day have been corrected, at least with respect to Massachusetts. Further, testing of the State 911 system confirms that our system is operational and that emergency calls to 9-1-1 are being routed to local and regional dispatch centers.

Residents are reminded to NOT call 911 or local 10-digit emergency number to test functionality. Please ONLY call if you need emergency services.

It is with a heavy heart that we have to share this news with our community. After 11yrs of a dedicated and distinguished career, K9 Ciro will be laid to rest today at noon due to an aggressive form of stomach cancer. Ciro retired late last year when his handler, Ofc. Losaw, made the rank on Detective. K9 Ciro served with the Pittsfield Police Department from 2006 until his retirement in 2017.

The Pittsfield Police K9 Unit will be joined by K9 teams from throughout Berkshire County in honoring K9 Ciro as he is escorted into the Pittsfield Veterinary Hospital by Detective Losaw. We will line up at Pittsfield Veterinary Hospital, located at 1634 West Housatonic St, at 11:30 am to salute K9 Ciro on his final call.

Yesterday, Detective Losaw and his family took Ciro to the lake for his last swim. K9 Ciro loved the water.

Thank you for your outstanding and dedicated service to our community K9 Ciro, we have the watch from here. God speed. 💯👮🐕😓 #k9Unit #RIP #OfficerDown #thinfurline #mansbestfriend #onepercent #cancersucks #goodboy

*** GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENT ***

As general advice we urge all dog owners to outfit their animals with a collar that includes identifying information such as an address and/or phone number so that if your animal is found away from home by someone unfamiliar with them, they may be promptly identified and returned. While we understand that some animals routinely return home after escaping to exploring the town, others may perceive the animal to be lost. Making sure that your animals can be clearly identified greatly helps to mitigate any confusion.

Thank you.
