Teak Sherman Community Garden (PAGE) This page provides basic information about the Scituate Food Pantry Community Garden at Teak Sherman Park in Scituate, Massachusetts.

The Teak Sherman Community Garden is an organic farm garden in Scituate, Massachusetts. The garden was founded in 2010 as a collaborative effort between Sustainable Scituate and resident organic farmer Jon Belber, Director of Education at Holly Hill Farm in Cohasset. The Scituate Conservation Commission has authorized the use of a town parcel of conservation land known as the Teak Sherman Park for

this project. First priority for plots is given to Food Pantry recipients and Scituate's senior citizens. Other farmer-gardeners tending plots are Scituate residents who provide a portion of their harvest to the Scituate Food Pantry. If you are interested in applying for a plot, please send an email to [email protected]. Member/Volunteers are encouraged to join the Teak Sherman Community GROUP on Facebook to share ideas and ask questions.

I watered the peas in the Food Pantry bed this afternoon. A handful have already germinated! Mine and Win's are not yet visible - I guess we planted too deep. I am hopeful that they are just a day behind! In the meantime, I have a vibrant crop of maple seedlings growing!

March is a good time to direct sow seeds for cold-weather crops, including peas, many greens (lettuce, spinach, kale, endive), many root crops (carrots, radishes), many cruciferous veggies (broccoli, boc choy, brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, kohlrabi).

You'll also want to be thinking about starting seeds inside for cantaloupes, corn, cucumbers, eggplants, peppers, pumpkins, winter squash, tomatoes, and watermelons.

Or, keep your eyes open for Holly Hill Farm's seedling sale!

Great day in the garden today. Thanks to Michael Bleakie for delivering compost on short notice for us, and to Ken's brother-in-law Evan for the wood chips. Check out today's photos, and be sure to get over to the garden soon if you weren't there today to see how great it looks!

Diane - Nice to meet you, too!
