On August 31, 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson stood in the White House Rose Garden and announced the extension of Head Start.

What started as a summer pilot — one that enrolled more than 561,000 children in its first year — was expanded into year-round centers for children aged 3 and older, with continued summer programming and follow-through services like home visits and field trips for families.

Sixty-one years later, that commitment is still being honored by the hundreds of thousands of Head Start staff who show up every day for children and families across the country.

Our end of year celebration for CDC was a hit! Everyone had so much fun running around and playing at the splash pad. What a great year!

Our friends in Child Development Center Room 107 were having fun during their Bag Study! 👜 They decorated their own bags with stickers while building fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and language through conversation. The children also explored what can go in a bag and loved filling them with small toys to take home. Learning is always more exciting through hands-on play!

Tiny hands, big discoveries!

Our Early Head Start children had so much fun exploring sand through handprint play! As they pressed their little hands into the sand, they enjoyed a fun sensory experience while building fine motor skills, curiosity, and creativity. Every handprint captured a special moment of learning through play!

Our artists in our CDC 101 classroom had so much fun exploring with stamps and ink pads! ✨ This hands-on art activity encouraged creativity, strengthened fine motor skills, and gave each child the opportunity to create their own unique masterpiece. We love watching imaginations come to life!

🎨 Our little artists in Early Head Start Classroom 102 had so much fun exploring watercolor painting! As they experimented with brushes, colors, and water, they practiced creativity, hand-eye coordination, and fine motor skills. Every masterpiece was as unique as the child who created it!

Our Head Start children at the Child Development Center had a blast during water play, using water and the playground slide for a fun-filled adventure. Along the way, they built confidence, practiced taking turns, and stayed active while making wonderful summer memories! 🛝💙
