We’ve just come back from our pilgrimage to Vietnam, where we spent the past two weeks deepening our political and cultural education. We learned about and visited sites connected to Vietnam’s long struggle for national liberation, independence, and reunification. At the start of our trip, we asked some members to share what they were excited to learn and experience during our time there. Here’s what they had to say!

Stay tuned for our shareback from the trip 🇻🇳

Curious about what inspired our calendar art style and artwork? Today, we’d like to share some history about Tranh Đông Hồ painting and its role in anticolonial resistance. We also highlight two of the sites significant to Vietnam that we’ve chosen to showcase in our calendar. Swipe for a sneak peek of the calendar art and to learn more!

Join our wrinkly brain hall of fame and download our zines! 📚🧠

This past summer, Sông2Sea created two zines for the inaugural to share our political education materials in an accessible way. As our communities continue to experience the effects of colonialism, imperialism, anti-immigration policies, and displacement, we share these zines to emphasize the importance of learning history and incorporating these lessons in our fight for a better world. We hope that you download the zines and study with us!

If you can contribute please consider donating to support our ongoing work!

📖About the Zines:

🔶Deportation, Migration, and Imperialism: Highlights how the current wave of detentions and deportations is nothing new, but part of a long history of US immigration policy. The U.S. military destabilizes foreign countries, bringing in migrants to be exploited as cheap labor, while ICE acts as a domestic arm of U.S. imperialism, expelling them once they’re no longer deemed useful.

🔶Vietnam’s Revolution and the Path Ahead: Examines Vietnam’s historical conditions from the French colonial era to occupation by the U.S., and its progress since. Analyzes the organized resistance movements that paved the way for national liberation, while also acknowledging war’s lasting scars and the imperfect, ongoing work of rebuilding a nation.

These two zines will be available for download on our website at song2sea.com/zines. Link is also available in our bio.

⭐📆 Our annual calendar is back! 📆⭐

This upcoming 2026 year welcomes the Fire Horse 🔥🐎, a vibrant animal that symbolizes bold independence and perseverance in the Vietnamese zodiac. In celebration of this spirit, we have designed the calendar inspired by these two proverbs:

🛣️“Ngựa hay không sợ đường dài,” which translates to “A capable horse is not afraid of the long road”,
🐎and “Một con ngựa đau, cả tàu bỏ cỏ,” which literally translates to “When one horse is sick, the entire herd stops eating,” and speaks to the solidarity of feeling one another’s pain as our own.

These themes evoke the energetic spirit of the horse, and we are humbled by the reminder that there is a long road ahead as we make strides towards a better world. This fundraiser is a major way for us to sustain our organizational activities. Proceeds will go towards our political education programs and the removal efforts for unexploded ordnance (UXO) in Vietnam.

Your calendars will be ready by the winter holidays and will make perfect gifts for your friends, family, and comrades!

The fundraiser ends November 17, 2025, at midnight Pacific Time.

The calendar is designed and illustrated with original art by our Sông2Sea artists. The months feature both Gregorian and lunisolar dates, as well as major holidays and moon phases. The calendar is printed on heavyweight, satin cardstock and spiral-bound. The suggested donation for a printed calendar is $45, and $20 for a digital download to print at home.

* Students/organizers: less $5 for all items.
* Bulk discounts available for five or more calendars.

Upon completion of the fundraiser, Sông2Sea will post a full report of the net and donation amount on our Instagram .

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival! 🌕🥮🏮

Did you know that Tết Trung Thu — the Mid-Autumn Festival — is a children’s festival in Vietnam, and it’s deeply intertwined with Vietnam’s anti-colonial struggle for national liberation?

Swipe through to learn how this festival illustrates Amílcar Cabral’s point that culture is both “the fruit of a people’s history and a determinant of history.”

We hope this post inspires you to organize and work towards a brighter future 🌕 Tell us your favorite lantern, song, mooncake flavor, or something new that you learned from this post!

We wish everyone a joyful and safe Mid-Autumn Festival ✨

Iffy about your attendance? No worries! Register anyway! After the event, all registrants will receive a recording of the presentation along with the slides and a discussion guide for your community.

Tickets are available on a sliding scale of $0 to $20. Register now at

In our previous post, we shared the history of the Paris Conference and how it marked a turning point from reform to revolution. In this post, we discuss the speech Hồ Chí Minh delivered toward the goal of total independence — both from the French and the Japanese — on September 2, 1945. By referring to the U.S. Declaration of Independence and the Declaration of the French Revolution, Hồ Chí Minh highlighted the hypocritical promises of “liberty,” “rights,” and “freedom” under colonialism and imperialism.

Here are some questions for reflection:
In what ways do the words of liberal democracy not match reality today?
Have you read the Vietnamese Declaration of Independence? What stands out to you?
What difference do you notice about the Vietnamese Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Declaration of Independence?

Please share your thoughts in the comments!

Why come to our August Revolution event? What can an 80-year-old event teach us about today’s struggles? Why study revolutionary history?

Studying history sharpens our analysis. It makes us more resilient to setbacks, disappointments, and hopelessness. It motivates and inspires us as we see patterns in the system. It makes our organizing stronger and more strategic.

In this post, we share a moment when Ho Chi Minh and other Vietnamese patriots submitted a polite petition, not even demanding full independence, but simply asking for basic rights for the Vietnamese people under colonial rule—and got turned away. Read on to see what happened next!

Join us this Saturday for the August Revolution event: history, insights, discussions, and community (and snacks if you’re coming in person).

If you can’t make it, no worries! Registrants get a recording, plus presentation slides and discussion questions to explore with your org or community.

Grab your ticket now: bit.ly/s2s-aug2025 (Tickets are sliding scale $0-$20 and helps raise funds for our Vietnam Learning Trip.)

Meanwhile, here are some questions for reflection:
* What demands are being ignored today?
* How can we turn disappointment into organized resistance?

Please share your thoughts in the comments!

80 years ago today, on August 20, 1945, after the Viet Minh’s victory in Hanoi, a general uprising ignited across Vietnam, ending nearly a century of colonial rule. As we honor this history, we recognize the present struggles for freedom and national liberation, including that of Palestine.

Right now, over half a million people in Palestine are experiencing catastrophic hunger, with 1 in 3 going without food for days at a time.

Sông2Sea condemns the ongoing starvation imposed by Israel and funded by the United States.

We push back on the framing that this is a “humanitarian crisis” and make clear that this is a man-made atrocity and weapon of war. This is genocide as a business model of the U.S. military-industrial complex.

From Vietnam to Gaza, the U.S. has weaponized hunger and profited from mass death. We will not stay silent.

We demand:
    •    An end to the siege on Gaza
    •    Immediate, unrestricted aid
    •    An end to U.S. military aid to Israel
    •    International accountability for the use of hunger as a weapon

We invite our diaspora communities to read the full statement for more context and concrete steps you can take right now. We invite you to share the statement and join us in building the discipline to organize together.
Let Gaza live. From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.

Join Sông2Sea in celebrating Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month! We will host a workshop and interactive art activity on Saturday, May 31st, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. PST at the Beacon Hill Library Meeting Room and on Zoom.

As Asian diaspora in the United States, we often hear stories about our families moving to the U.S. for a better life and economic opportunities. Our workshop will challenge this narrative by exposing the role of imperialism and colonialism in forcing people from their homelands, and how the U.S. continues this legacy today with intensified deportations and anti-immigrant policies. To commemorate the final day of AANHPI month, we will map our own family stories of migration on a collaborative timeline alongside histories of imperialism and displacement.

We hope our workshop empowers you with a clearer understanding of your history and our role as Asian diaspora in the fight for social justice and liberation!

📅 Date: May 31 (Saturday)
⏰ Time: 3:30-5 pm PST, doors open at 3 pm
📍 Location: Beacon Hill Library Meeting Room (2821 Beacon Ave S, Seattle, WA 98144) or via Zoom
🔗 Register here: https://tinyurl.com/S2SASAMWorkshop

Doors open at 3:00 p.m. PST. We will provide light snacks and masks. Masks are required except when eating or drinking. We encourage everyone to attend regardless of their ancestral ties!
