Association of King County Historical Organizations - AKCHO

Association of King County Historical Organizations - AKCHO AKCHO is the leading proponent and forum for addressing heritage issues at local and county levels

AKCHO was incorporated in 1977 as a forum available to all who work in the world of heritage preservation, guided and nurtured by now experienced old hands. King County's Preservation Office was established in 1978, with a focus on survey and rehabilitation of the many graceful architectural treasures of the county. Volunteers, preservation professionals, developers, and communities took new pride

in the heritage landscape and many new community heritage groups found homes in the lovely mansions, depots, churches, public halls, and commercial buildings rescued from an uncertain future. Now over 73 organizations strong, with the added support of 74 individual members, AKCHO continues to provide a meeting place of ideas and a forum for the issues that confront museums and heritage groups. More than stewards of the past, AKCHO's members are a vibrant group assuring a place for preservation in the future. AKCHO will continue to facilitate the communication, professional standards, and funding of heritage groups

Good times at the Vashon Island Heritage Museum yesterday for our field trip. We saw their newly renovated Permanent Exhibit, Special Exhibit about their history of their local community Theater, and collections space. We also had a lot of fun chatting and other museum professionals.
