This year marks 𝟭𝟮𝟬 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 of Neighborhood House, not because anyone set out to last a century, but because the need this organization was built to meet has lasted that long.

Janice Deguchi has led it through more than six of those years, after 25-plus years in the field before that: early learning, senior care, employment, youth mentorship. At What Matters Most 2026, she said it plainly: "𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘦 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘴 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘶𝘴. 𝘞𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘴. 𝘞𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴. 𝘞𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘧𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘺."

That's the actual story behind 120 years. Not momentum, just the need still being here, and people willing to show up for it. We'd love a future where that's no longer needed. Until then, here she is.

We have openings in our 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 and are actively recruiting for the 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲–𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟳 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿. We're also building our waitlist for future enrollment.

All programs are 𝟭𝟬𝟬% 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲. Families just need to meet age, income, and service area requirements. Families experiencing homelessness or children in foster care receive priority enrollment.
