A couple of weeks ago, we were honored to be invited to participate in an after-school program where students had the opportunity to ask questions, explore the ambulance, and get hands-on with some of our equipment.

These events are always some of our favorite activities because they help bring awareness to EMS, volunteer services, and the importance of giving back to your community. We hope experiences like this help spark interest in the next generation of first responders and community volunteers.

A huge thank you to Cobleskill Rescue Squad for taking time out of their busy schedules to provide American Heart Association CPR training to the Sharon Springs Fire Department, Rescue Squad, and Ladies Auxiliary.

Your dedication to helping strengthen the skills of our first responders and community members helps keep the Sharon Springs District safer for everyone. We truly appreciate your professionalism, knowledge, and commitment to public safety.

The pager goes off.

Maybe we’re sitting down to dinner with our families.
Maybe it’s 2AM and the rest of the community is asleep.
Maybe we’re folding laundry, mowing the lawn, rushing out the door for work, or finally relaxing after a long day.

But when the call comes — we go.

That’s EMS. 🚑

During EMS Week, we celebrate the men and women who willingly drop everything to answer the call for the community they love. We respond in moments of fear, chaos, heartbreak, and uncertainty. Sometimes beside our fire departments and law enforcement agencies, but always with one mission: keeping our community safe.

EMS isn’t just lights and sirens.
It’s compassion.
It’s sacrifice.
It’s missing dinners, losing sleep, putting strangers first, and showing up on someone’s worst day because helping people matters.

But the truth is — we need help.

Volunteer EMS is struggling everywhere, and we are no exception. If you’ve ever wanted to make a difference, now is the time. You do not have to be fearless. You just have to care enough to step forward.

If you want to be the change you wish to see in your community, reach out to us. There’s a place for people willing to serve.

To all first responders and volunteers: thank you for continuing to answer the call, no matter the hour.

This week is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, and we want to take a moment to recognize the voices behind the scenes—the calm in the chaos, the steady hand in the storm.

You are the first voice people hear on what may be the worst day of their lives. Before lights and sirens, before we arrive on scene—it’s you. You answer the calls no one ever wants to make. You bring calm to panic, clarity to confusion, and direction when every second matters.

You are the unseen lifeline for our responders and our community. You juggle multiple emergencies at once, gather critical information, and guide callers through unimaginable situations—all while staying composed, professional, and compassionate.

As volunteers, we rely on you more than words can express. You are our connection, our support, and our partners in every call we take. Your voice helps guide us safely to those in need, and your work truly saves lives.

Thank you for your dedication, your strength, and your unwavering commitment to this community. You may not always be seen—but you are never unnoticed, and you are always appreciated.

🚒🚑 228 Calls. 228 Times We Answered. 🚑🚒

In the past year, our Fire Department & Rescue Squad responded to 228 fire and rescue calls, the highest call volume in our history.

Behind every call is a team of dedicated volunteers who leave their families, jobs, and beds in the middle of the night to help others. We are incredibly thankful for each and every one of them.

🚑 EMS Reminder: Ambulances Are for Emergencies Only 🚑

With EMS shortages here and across the country, please remember—ambulances should only be used for true medical emergencies. If you don’t have an emergency, try to arrange alternate transportation to seek medical care. This helps make sure ambulances are available for those who need them most.
