Winged Ambassadors is proud and honored to welcome the newest bird into our feathered staff, the beautiful bald eagle Lady Liberty! Liberty will be one of several eagles trained by Master Falconer Dale Arrowood, but the first ever to be a part of Winged Ambassador’s team—as such, we are very excited to have her! We will be working patiently to acclimate Liberty to crowds and train her to do flights. Anyone and everyone is welcome to attend a Banning Mills Birds of Prey Educational show or see her in her enclosure at Historic Banning Mills.
Lady Liberty has come to Winged Ambassadors out of a need of a home. Liberty had to be taken into human care after she fell off of an awning at a construction site. She is about five years old and is imprinted on humans, meaning that she can no longer be released into the wild. As such, she will have to be cared for by humans for the rest of her life. Because of this, a custom facility has been constructed at Banning Mills to accommodate all of Liberty’s needs and maximize her happiness and safety. Although she cannot be wild again, we’re honored to be able to offer her a safe and fulfilling life with Winged Ambassadors.
By simple virtue of being a bald eagle, Liberty has some amazing qualities. Being a female bird, Liberty is considerably larger than male bald eagles and has a wingspan of a whopping 8 feet. Additionally, bald eagles are capable of reaching speeds up to 100 mph during a dive and can have talons that are up to two inches long. Because she is still young, Liberty has not fully grown in her characteristic white crown, but should have it completely grown in by the end of next summer. Once Liberty’s crown has completely matured, she will have plenty of time to enjoy it, as bald eagles have been known to live over 40 years in captivity.
We are honored and thrilled to have the beautiful Lady Liberty under our care. We hope that with her, we can continue to educate people far and wide about the beauty of raptors and the natural world as a whole. Getting a bald eagle has been a long anticipated dream of Winged Ambassadors, and we are overjoyed to have fulfilled it. We thank all of our staff and volunteers, our wonderful friends at Historic Banning Mills, our superb photographer, and of course, our followers and supporters from all around the country for all of their support and contributions towards making this dream happen. Please welcome our newest edition to the Winged Ambassadors team, Lady Liberty.
