Governor Roy Cooper today ordered all US and North Carolina flags at state facilities be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Friday, May 15, 2020 in observance of National Peace Officers Memorial Day. This day recognizes the many men and women of law enforcement who lost their lives or who were injured in the line of duty.

As a show of respect, individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions are encouraged to fly the flag at half-staff for the duration of time indicated.

Today, I entered an order extending filing and other deadlines in the court system until June 1st. These delays reduce the number of people who must come into our county courthouses every day, keeping us all more safe.

We appreciate the patience and resiliency of our court officials and personnel, members of the bar, and the public as we work through these challenging times together.

We are monitoring the guidance of public health officials and our team is working around the clock to help local officials move cases forward in a way that is safe and respects the rights and liberties of everyone who depends on us.

Best of luck in your future endeavors Dawn and Maggie 🐾

You will be missed by many!

After 11 years, today is GAL Supervisor Dawn Stover's last day at the Cleveland County office. It's hard to say exactly how many kids she has served, but we know it is in the thousands. Please join us in thanking Dawn for everything she has done for the GAL program and the children of Cleveland County, and wish her (and her dog Maggie) good luck on her new adventure!

Tree Work at the Historic Courtsquare in Uptown Shelby Begins on Monday, April 29

Cleveland County consulted with two tree service companies, a state forest ranger and two service foresters who all assessed the health and viability of the trees on the Historic Courtsquare in uptown Shelby (which is now the location of The Earl Scruggs Center). These tree professionals agreed on the trees that were healthy and only needed pruning, and the trees that were unhealthy and needed to be removed. Pruning and removal will begin on Monday, April 29. The County plans to replace some the trees that need to be removed with trees that are native to this area, including white and red oaks.
