Brothers from another mother?

We never got the full story but apparently Señor Tobie and Mr. Webb’s dad spent some time together this summer and it resulted in Señor Tobie making this shirt featuring a young Mr. Webb.

Isn’t it crazy how much it looks like Señor Tobie?!

Yesterday we hosted numerous law enforcement agencies and first responders for an active shooter drill with SMS staff in conjunction with the City of Sidney, Shelby County Emergency Management Agency, and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department.

This exercise is designed to test and strengthen coordinated response operations among law enforcement, fire, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), school personnel from Sidney, and surrounding agencies throughout Shelby County.

Exercises like this ask a lot of the people who take part in them — they’re emotionally demanding, even in a training setting. At the same time, this kind of hands-on coordination with the agencies who would be on the front lines of a real emergency gives staff the confidence and readiness to act decisively should they ever need to.

The addition of student actors with stage make-up wounds adds another realistic element to the drill. It’s challenging for everyone involved, but it’s rooted in protecting students.

Thank you to EVERYONE who played a role in this drill.

"This award is a reflection of all of us at SHS."

Congratulations to Sidney High School science teacher Jeff Webb, named the 2026 recipient of the Kishor M. Kulkarni Distinguished High School Teacher Award from the ASM Materials Education Foundation! This national honor recognizes just one high school science teacher each year across the U.S. and Canada for lasting impact on students. Jeff will be recognized at the ASM Leadership Awards Luncheon on September 28 in Québec City.

"I was shocked to have been selected for this award. There are so many amazing teachers who are deserving of this that I never thought I'd be considered. I wouldn't be the teacher that I am without the help and support of many others in the field. Mr. Gary Cross, a former administrator of mine, started me on the path with ASM and education that has led me to where I am today. Sidney High School has so many amazing teachers and administrators that have continued to push me to grow and improve. Without leaders such as Mr. Snyder and Mrs. Gaier and countless other teachers of SHS I wouldn't be where I am. This award is a reflection of all of us at SHS."

Way to go, Mr. Webb!
