The delphinium garden in the area where the grand old cottonwood tree once stood is looking lovely right now. It was planted there to honor Dot Tuthill’s wish that her delphinium garden be maintained and it seemed like a perfect spot. Thanks again to Tanya and crew for suggesting that area and the great work in creating it.

We recently added two bronze plaques, attached to Sioux Quartzite stones, telling a little of the history about the Tuthill House.
Thanks go to Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation’s Tim Hill, Tanya Scheepstra and others for their help in locating, placing the stones and attaching the plaques.

We recently had the pleasure of showing this lovely lady how her former home had been restored.
She is Jane Pardoe. Her father, George Pardoe, was a former Parks Superintendent. The family lived in the Tuthill House from 1953-1963.

This may not look like much, but it’s kind of a big deal. This is the site of the big old cottonwood tree that proudly stood watch and served as the backdrop for many photos for decades at Tuthill Park. It succumbed to old age and an ice storm a number of years ago. The stump was preserved for a few years and park personnel planted flowers in it. It deteriorated and was removed earlier this year.
The space is now home to a delphinium garden in honor of Dot Tuthill’s love for the flower and her desire to have the delphinium gardens maintained in perpetuity.

Today after the open house, our good friend and neighbor Kristi Devick-Beek suggested we go to Woodlawn Cemetery to visit the graves of the Tuthill Family. Pictured are the headstones of father and mother John (who started Tuthill Lumber Company in the early 1880s) and Jennie, son George, and son Arthur and wife Dot (the benefactors of Tuthill Park and House)
