Education nationwide is being redesigned and is following a plan years in the making. At our Tribal level, support should include efforts to enhance and protect each education entity from any adverse potential impact. TZTS and SWC both have their own individual governing bodies. There is also a Tribal Education code. We have a Tribal Education Department. On the operational side of things it looks like we have a capable structure in place but there are challenges. We hear and see some of the issues related to our education entities. I think there are opportunities where we can work together to develop solutions.

Land. Its part of what defines us as Sisseton Wahpeton Dakotah people. It is so important to us, in that it is part of our Treaties. It isn't just a resource to be exploited for economic gain. We not only have a obligation to give it the needed attention as stewards, but we have a spiritual connection that should not be neglected. That is one of the reasons why I feel it is necessary to have it be a priority. It needs to be protected, properly managed and re-acquired. Part of our past strategic plans (and hopefully current) has been to re-acquire and rebuild our land base. We can walk all over this entire Ina Maka, but at the end of the day, this is our homeland. This is where you and I belong.

The Great Plains Tribal Chairman's Association, Inc., hosted a two day working session this past week in Rapid City, SD to formulate approaches to address public safety in the Great Plains. It is hoped that we were at the table and involved as these are opportunities to be a part of addressing public safety in our community.

Project 2025's agricultural chapter proposes downsizing the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), eliminating climate-smart farming initiatives, cutting federal crop insurance subsidies, and rolling back nutrition safety nets like SNAP. These deregulations and spending-cuts measures prioritize industry profits over stability and increase long-term vulnerabilities in the domestic food supply. This was the second event, introducing tribal candidates. We also welcomed 2 excellent people, Mr. Steve McCleery, SD state Lt. Governor candidate, (running along side SD Governor candidate Mr. Dan Ahlers) and Ms . Courtney Enfield (Navy Veteran and SWO lineal descendent) running for SD state District 1 House. Mr. Tom Wilson, doing what he does best, hosting the event.
