Winter weather and power outages are expected this weekend in Pickens County. Prepare now for freezing temperatures, hazardous driving conditions and several days without power.

🔋Be sure your devices are fully charged in case of a power outage. Have flashlights and plenty of batteries on hand.

🍫Stock your pantry with non-perishable food items to last several days in case you are without power and unable to leave.

⚠️Home oxygen patients should be sure they know how to connect to their emergency oxygen supply and familiarize themselves with their emergency plans in case of a power outage.

🚗Avoid unnecessary travel. If travel cannot be avoided, pack an emergency kit and be prepared for the possibility of being stranded for several hours. Even treated roads may not be suitable for travel.

🚨911 is for emergencies only. Know the numbers for non-emergency lines you may need (such as to report a power outage or request non-emergency resources) so you can help us keep 911 lines open for emergencies.

🔌Generators can be beneficial during power outages, but improper usage can be fatal. Know how to safely use your generator to avoid putting yourself and others at risk.

Pickens County Emergency Services along with the SC Emergency Management Division are currently monitoring the developing weather along the east coast. At this time, there is a great deal of uncertainty concerning the track and severity of the storms and how the upstate may be affected. These conditions could change rapidly. We urge residents to stay aware and updated on weather conditions and begin to prepare now for possible power outages and heavy rainfall which could develop as early as mid-day on Monday, Sept. 29. Pickens County will remain vigilant and prepared as storms develop and will provide updates as new information becomes available.
