❤️ NCDHHS issued a Secretarial Order allowing for outdoor visitation at nursing homes if they meet several protective requirements. The Secretarial Order is effective as of Sept. 4 at 5 p.m. and remains in effect through September 22, 2020.https://files.nc.gov/covid/documents/Secretarial-Order-3.pdf

🙏 The past six months have been difficult, and the summer was no exception. Throughout June and in the beginning of July, we experienced our highest levels of community transmission, cases, and then hospitalizations. But thanks to the hard work of North Carolinians, especially with wearing face coverings, trends are beginning to stabilize and begin moving downward.

🏫 While the back-to-school season provided new opportunities for the virus to spread, and we did see outbreaks at our universities, our overall metrics show signs of stability. Your hard work is having an impact. We must keep working together to continue to make progress by practicing the 3 Ws: Wear, Wait and Wash.

💉 As flu season approaches, there’s another preventive measure North Carolinians need to do: Get Your Flu Shot. Flu can be a serious, sometimes deadly, disease. This year, with another dangerous respiratory virus spreading at the same time and our medical system already working overtime, it’s more important than ever to get your flu vaccine.

⚠️ As we take some steps forward today, it’s important to remember that moving forward doesn’t mean letting up. It’s the actions that all of us have taken that have gotten us to this point. But letting up on those preventive actions, especially the 3 Ws, could erase that progress.

3️⃣ The pandemic is not yet over and while we are all forced to live alongside COVID-19, we can all take simple actions that will allow us to protect our communities, reignite the economy and getting back to the things we love. Those actions are the 3Ws: wearing a face covering over your nose and mouth, waiting six feet apart, and washing your hands often. Wear. Wait. Wash.

Shoreline protection: Congressmen Murphy, Rouzer visit Topsail

Thank you Congressman Greg Murphy, MD and Rep. David Rouzer for visiting our beautiful island last week. On their tour with the Topsail Island Shoreline Protection Commission, the congressmen heard from elected officials and staff from each of the island's three towns. Here at NTB, we appreciate the time they took out of their schedules to visit and their continued support in removing NTB from the Coastal Barrier Resources System.

NTB firefighters came out this morning for a different type of rescue. They helped Topsail Turtle Project volunteers get a Green Sea Turtle back to the ocean after she had crawled over the back side of the dunes, across the street and into a vacant lot.

The firefighters were awesome, so professional, kind and helpful. Many thanks.

Afterwards, the volunteers found the turtle's nest and relocated it to a safe spot in the dunes.

Every town is an important part of the American story. Make sure your town’s story is told. When you respond to the 2020 Census, you’ll also help your town get the most out of the American dream. Completing the Census helps provide data that can attract new businesses and jobs. The data also informs where over $16 billion in federal funding is spent each year in NC and our communities. Money for things like roads, schools, housing and other economic and social programs and services. To learn more, visit census.nc.gov. #MakeNCCount

There has been a lot of discussion surrounding the proposed collaboration among North Topsail Beach, Surf City and the Army Corps of Engineers; this project is commonly referred to as “The Federal Project” and impacts the southern 4 miles of our Town. Although many years of work have gone into the project, the past few months have been particularly labor intensive.

The Board of Aldermen and staff have pored over the project's details from many angles. We want to take this opportunity to provide this information for your consideration. Please click the link below to view a letter from Mayor Joann McDermon and a summary of our findings.

North Carolina needs you to respond to the 2020 Census today!

If you haven’t already responded to the Census, time is running out. The 2020 Census has been shortened and now ends on SEPTEMBER 30. Approximately 4 million North Carolinians still need to be counted or we risk losing an estimated $74 billion over the next decade. Census workers will begin going door to door starting August 11. You can avoid their knock on your door by responding now online, by phone, or by mail.

Respond TODAY at my2020census.gov or 844-330-2020.

Responding to the Census is safe, easy and important for our state’s future. Every NC resident who responds brings back $1,823 per year to our state. Census results are used to fund programs that impact schools, roads, and emergency services.
