At approximately 18:27, a 911 report of a single-family residence on fire was called into SnoCom (fire dispatch). The calling party stated there was fire on the garage roof of their home. A working residential fire was dispatched, with 11 units dispatched in total: 2 Battalion Chiefs, 4 Engines, 2 Ladder Trucks, 1 ALS Ambulance, 1 Medical Services Officer, and a Chaplain.

Snohomish Regional Fire and Rescue Engine 83 and Snohomish County Fire District 4 Engine 41 arrived quickly, despite icy road conditions, reporting a heavy fire in the attic. The reporting party had evacuated and reported to units on the scene that they were uninjured. Everett Ladder 1 conducted a rapid search of the entire residence and confirmed the house was unoccupied and had light smoke and heat. Ladder 1 pulled the ceiling on the second floor for hose stream access in a coordinated fire attack with Engine 83 and Engine 41. Engine 43 supplied water utilizing the nearest fire hydrant. Their efforts resulted in a quick knockdown of the fire in the attic. The fire transitioned into overhaul status and was hampered by many possessions in the home. The fire was declared "tapped" at 19:02
Snohomish County Fire District 4 would like to thank our automatic-aid partners, Everett Fire Department, Snohomish Regional Fire and Rescue, and our extraordinary Chaplains!

We would like to remind everyone to have their chimneys inspected and cleaned regularly by a certified, licensed, and bonded contractor.

Hey New Parents! We do Child Car Seat Safety Checks!

Did you know that 46% of all car seats are installed improperly? How can that be?

1. The car seat isn't matched to the child weight!
2. Not installing the car seat straps tightly enough
3. The car seat straps are not installed correctly
4. The transition to a forward facing car seat occurs too soon.
5 The manuals for the car seat and the vehicle are not read before installation.

Good evening, Snohomish. We often receive questions about the medical education requirements for EMTs to maintain our certification each year. Here’s a breakdown of the classes we need to complete:
Wondering what it takes to become an EMT in Washington state? Here's a quick rundown:

🧑‍⚕️ EMT Training in Washington:

Basic Requirements: To become an EMT, you need to complete a state-approved EMT course, which typically takes about 120-150 hours of classroom and hands-on training.
Skills Covered: You'll learn how to assess patients, provide basic life support (BLS), perform CPR, manage trauma, and stabilize patients in emergency situations.
Certification: After finishing your course, you’ll take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) exam to get certified. In Washington, you'll also need to be licensed by the state to officially work as an EMT.
Ongoing Education: EMTs must also complete continuing education and re-certify every few years to stay up-to-date on the latest medical techniques and standards.

The core classes include:

1. EMS Pediatric Emergencies

2. EMS Pediatric Assessment

3. EMS Bleeding and Shock

4. EMS Gunshot Wounds

5. EMS Kinematics of Trauma

6. Active Shooter and Acts of Targeted Violence

7. Managing Cardiac Arrest: During and After Resuscitation

8. Resuscitation Academy

9. EMS Endocrine System Emergencies

10. EMS Patient Assessment

11. EMS Acute Coronary Syndromes

Each class includes a practical (hands-on) session to practically apply what you have learned in the above lectures. The sessions include:

1. BLS Pediatric High-Performance CPR (HPCPR)

2. Bleeding Control

3. Comprehensive Trauma

4. Adult High-Performance CPR (HPCPR)

5. Comprehensive Medical Skills

This list outlines the EMS education required for each EMT. If you have any questions, feel free to send us a message. We’re happy to help!

Good morning, amazing friends and family of Snohomish! We would like you to know about a fantastic service available at our local fire stations. We invite you to utilize our convenient blood pressure checks, where our trained staff will provide you with essential health insights to help you stay on top of your wellness.

🩺 How Blood Pressure Monitoring Saves Lives 🩺

Monitoring your blood pressure regularly is a simple but powerful way to catch potential health issues before they become life-threatening. Here’s how it works:

1. Early Detection of Hypertension:
High blood pressure (hypertension) is often called the "silent killer" because it doesn't always show noticeable symptoms. Left unchecked, it can lead to serious conditions like heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure. Regular monitoring helps detect it early so you can take steps to manage it before it causes irreversible damage.

2. Prevents Heart Attacks & Strokes:
By keeping track of blood pressure, doctors can identify when it's too high and intervene with lifestyle changes, medications, or other treatments. Managing high blood pressure reduces the risk of heart attacks and strokes—two of the leading causes of death worldwide.

3. Monitors Treatment Effectiveness:
If you’re already on medication for high blood pressure, regular monitoring ensures that the treatment is working as it should. It also helps healthcare providers adjust your treatment plan if necessary, keeping you on the right track toward better health.

4. Protects Your Organs:
Consistently high blood pressure can damage vital organs, including the heart, brain, kidneys, and eyes. Blood pressure monitoring protects these organs from long-term damage by catching it early and keeping it in check.

In short, monitoring your blood pressure is a simple habit that can help prevent serious health issues and ultimately save lives. Talk to your doctor about how often you should have it checked, and make it part of your regular health routine! 💙 See you at the firehouse!

Good morning, Snohomish friends and family! We have some exciting news! Your Snohomish Fire Department has grown by two! Firefighter Paramedic Pladsen and Firefighter Paramedic Young recently graduated from Central Washington University with their Paramedic certification! They are both from Snohomish and graduated from Glacier Peak in 2020! Their journey started last week, and they are attending a three-part training program for entry-level firefighters.

On January 21, they began Pre-Academy, our system of onboarding new employees. They will go through the Human Resources process, learn our Policies and Procedures, and be assigned their Personal Protective Clothing.

Their next step is attending the Snohomish County Fire Training Academy. There, they will learn basic firefighting skills and basic strategy and tactics. They will attain Firefighter 1 and 2 certifications as well as Hazardous Materials Operations level training.

Immediately following the academy, they will attend Post Academy training here at District 4. This will give them a chance to practice what they have learned and put it to use using our trucks and equipment. They will also have the chance to integrate with our crews prior to hitting the streets as probationary firefighters, where it all becomes very real!

Welcome to the Tradition that is The Fantastic 4!

The last report from Battalion Chief Mansfield.

Good evening everyone!
Gathered at the muster point for travel to the demobe site at Zuma Beach.
We Lt Osborne masterfully lead the group through that process and vehicle inspection.
During the inspection a damaged fuel line was found and repaired onsite. Other than that, Julius passed inspection with flying colors (Julius is the name of this engine, because it is one of the twins)
Began to travel north at approximately 1100.
No issues during travel.
Personnel remain upbeat and are operating without difficulty.
We anticipate arrival at 43 between 1800 and 2000, there we will clean up and complete the process of demobilization.

Thank you for the opportunity serve and the continued support.

Good morning everyone!

We started the morning at our regular time 0500.
Day began with apparatus and gear preparation then travel.
Orders received were to report to Division Papa/Tango for hotspot checks, community interaction, and preparation for initial attack on new starts.
Winds were steady with gusts in the mid 30s.
Special care taken while operating in areas of catastrophe.
Minor bee activity in the areas.
Multiple hotspots were identified and mitigated.
Assisted community members with evaluation of homes.
This interaction required high levels of compassion and sensitivity.
Notified in late afternoon that we were being "short shifted" and pulled from the line for a rest period before demobe in the a.m. on 1/24.
Work day ended at 2000.
All personnel are in good physical, emotional and psychological condition.
Apparatus is operating well, besides the comfort issues.
Expected arrival home late 1/25 or 1/26. We will update on progress of travel. My location is shared with AC Hill, if there are additional questions.

Thank you for the continued support and opportunity to assist others.

Good afternoon, Snohomish. Here is Battalion Chief Mansfield's report.

Good morning.

We are currently staged and working on our equipment and rig checks.

We began to shift on 1/21 at 0500 with preparation and travel to ICP.

Our strike team WA-8 was assigned to be prepositioned in the Malibu Canyons on Rambla Pacifico Rd for hot spot checking and availability for the initial attack in Division Papa/Tango. Additional assignments were to assist with residents returning to the area for the day and pick up hose lays that were previously deployed.

We headed out on foot after positioning in an advantaged area that provided visibility over a large area and multiple egress paths.

Personnel spent time warming up joints and muscles to prevent injuries to both hard and soft tissues.

Many utility companies in the area require special attention to traffic and overhead hazards.

A hot spot was identified as embedded in a buried stump pile on the hillside adjacent to many homes. Our engine, along with Brush 85, worked this area diligently until well after dark. Due to the hillside, we built 4-cup trenches to prevent rolling embers from starting additional spot fires.

After that fire was extinguished, we returned to our preposition area.

Sustained winds of 40+ mph required a high level of situational awareness and the ability to deploy quickly for any flare-ups. Thank goodness there were none.

Returned to Camp Zuma for additional prep and supplies. Expected release about 1400 today.

Engine 40 is uncomfortable for daily extended travel but operates well.

Personnel remain positive and engaged.

The tentative demobe is still Friday, with the required rest to follow before travel on Saturday.

Make it a great day.

Good evening, Snohomish from Southern California. We received additional information from the post earlier. Here it is. 🙂

01-19-2025
Crew was at the truck at 05:00 and prepare for the day. WA-8 Strike team was at the fuel depot at 06:15 then to Zuma base camp for breakfast and to wait for orders. WA-8 was assigned a new division for our twenty-four period. Papa-tango was our new division name with the primary responsibility to the canyon above Malibu. We had been given the responsibility to check the homes in the area. Papa-tango division was still under a level three evacuation, so no residents were in the area. Engine 40 was tasked to continue to watch for any potential fires, engage with residents, and be ready to be dispatch at a moment's notice. While checking houses we came across hot spots and extinguished them. You can see Firefighter Kloes doing here.

Washington 8 was off duty at 15:00 on 01-20-2025
Engine 40 is running well with no mechanical issues.
Today we heard that possibly demobe date is 1-24-2025 depending on weather.
Crew sprits continue to be high and have been working well together and with our strike team. The crew wants to thank all the people that have and are supporting us down here from back home, it means a lot.

Good Sunday evening Snohomish. Washington Task Force 8 resumed operations today after a much-needed break yesterday, and has been patrolling the hills above Malibu, checking for heat and engaging with individuals who did not evacuate. LT. Osborne is conferring with the safety officer for our division in the SUV. In one photo you will see the Malibu Pier appearing in the background. The winds have been upgraded to 50-70 mph in the LA area and 60-100 mph in the hills. Thank you, Snohomish, for looking after us from Washington State, so far away in Southern California.

Good evening Snohomish. Boy what a week! The crew finished the morning doing area familiarization. Law enforcement has started letting people back in certain areas. The pictures Firefighter Flath sent of all the trucks this morning was of them meeting back together for the drive to Malibu.

Back in Washington it’s going to be cold! Night time temperatures are going to dip into the mid 20s.

We want to spread information about the cold weather shelter in Snohomish. It’s located at 210 avenue B at the Snohomish Evangelical Free Church. Doors open at 8 to 10 p.m. For more information the phone number is 1-425-864-3765.

Be safe Snohomish! Look out for black ice at night and in the morning.
