WE DID IT. In case you missed it - THE MORATORIUM PASSED!

There is a 6 month pause on data center permit application acceptance and approval, lasting until February 28, 2027.

At first, the moratorium was only on site plan approvals. After we the people pushed back, it was expanded to include accepting new site plan proposals.

I wanted to share my public comment from today, because this is truly about ensuring the safety and health of northern Lusby, the Southern Middle School community, and Camp Conoy Road.

The work isn’t done. We must restore the zoning back to farm and forest. We must pass comprehensive ethics reform. We must strengthen and lengthen the moratorium. We must provide better leadership for the people of Calvert County.

This is disappointing but not shocking. These violations are further proof that Calvert County Government’s trust is at an all time low.

This is why I am running on comprehensive ethics reform - including banning NDAs, instituting a “cone of silence” around the procurement process, and creating an independent inspector general position. These reforms are necessary for the healing we need to undertake as a community.

Maryland's Open Meetings Compliance Board ruled Calvert County commissioners broke transparency law on closed-session disclosures, but cleared the county's website.

📰 IN THE PRESS 📰

“Democratic candidate Ethan Cox has consistently raised staunch opposition through social media, arguing that data centers do not fit Calvert County’s future.

“I do not believe that data centers are inherently a part of the future of Calvert County,” Cox said in an interview with The BayNet earlier this year.

In the interview, Cox expressed concerns about environmental impacts and has advocated focusing on industries such as agriculture, tourism, charter fishing, wineries and outdoor recreation. He has also encouraged residents to demonstrate their opposition through protests, picketing and petitions.

Cox is also a signatory to the joint statement in opposition to data center development along with candidates Pedersen, White and Bennett.”
