Despite the Trump Adminstration’s relentless attacks on LGBTQ+ Rights, I remain determined and hopeful that we in Massachusetts will continue leading the way. Q***r folks across the Commonwealth and country have always fought back and found ways to thrive, to build community, and to love openly. This Pride Month, I join you in celebrating this legacy of resilience and recommit myself to defending it. Happy Pride! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️✊

Over the past 36 hours, East Somerville residents have been asking me: What’s going on at Foss Park? I spent the better part of the day yesterday untangling multiple renovation efforts. The work is good and welcome, but I’m now calling on DCR to meet with residents to discuss plans.

Last night, I asked DCR to work with me to schedule a meeting to provide the public with an update on the work at Foss Park and an opportunity to ask questions and offer feedback, etc.

On Wednesday evening, I attended a deeply moving Holocaust Commemoration at the Tremont Street Shul. Our guest speaker was Lev Igolnikov, who as a young boy fled thousands of miles from his home in the Soviet Union when the N***s invaded in 1941 — when he finally returned home, he found all four of his grandparents and many relatives had been murdered in the Holocaust. It is another sober reminder that the world must be steadfast in ensuring Never Again truly means never again.

Delighted to witness a performance of the world-famous The Platters in the House Chamber this afternoon as we prepare to vote on a series of bills related to the availability of epi pens, limitations on police use of drones, and prohibitions on robotic weapons, etc.

Today, I met with the House Conferees for the PROTECT Act to advocate for the strongest possible version of the bill to advance quickly from the House-Senate conference committee. This is our opportunity to make it clear once and for all that Massachusetts will resist the ICE crackdown in every possible way! ✊

This afternoon, I joined with Councilor Ayah Al-Zubi to visit with residents at the Rivermark Apartments in response to the horrific mass shooting that occurred in front of the building last week. We connected residents to resources and wanted to let them know they’re not alone 💗 we also visited with folks at the Dunkin, the empanada place, and the gas stations.

The City of Cambridge will host the city’s first official meeting in response to this horror tomorrow at 6 pm at the Cambridge Community Center. On Thursday evening, the Riverside Trauma Center will meet with Rivermark Apartment residents specifically, and the Mayor and I are also in conversation on the possibility of additional meetings.

On Wednesday evening, I spoke at a vigil for the victims of the Memorial Drive shooting on Monday. It was important to be in community to acknowledge the severity of this event as we do our best to support our neighbors Thank you to Cambridge DSA for organizing and inviting me to say a few words. 🕯️ We cannot go backward on criminal justice reform or gun control. Instead, we must look at the difficult questions of access to mental health care, state budgets, and re-entry supports. Meanwhile this week, I have been working with City and state officials and our community partners to schedule an accessible community debrief meeting (this Tuesday at 6 pm, Cambridge Community Center) and to ensure additional supports are made available to impacted residents. 🕯️

It’s been a difficult week as we process the horrific shooting that occurred on Memorial Drive. My latest newsletter is out now with several reactions to this traumatic event.

On Monday afternoon, I got a text about an active shooter on Memorial Drive, and immediately the mind begins to race: who do I know in the area? Has anyone been shot? Is the threat still ongoing? Now, we are holding space for those injured and traumatized, as plans for community meetings move forwar...
