Update on the scam alert. The scammers are using law enforcement lingo and verbiage in an attempt to intimidate and place fear into the victims of their scam. Please understand that this is not the way law enforcement operates. If a law enforcement agency needs to obtain information from you, there will be zero threats and more than likely they will show up at your door and see you in person. They are preying on people’s fear and making them feel as if they are an unwitting participant in a criminal act. Please, if you get one of these calls simply ask them to meet you at the Soperton police department to discuss this matter further. I will be more than happy to speak to them for you. Thank you and please stay alert and stay safe.

Officer Warnock is off to his first day of school as Treutlen County Schools first Resource Officer. Chris is really excited about getting to know ALL of the kids and making sure that they are safe this school year. If you all see Chris this morning give him a high five, because deep down I think he is a little nervous.

Dear Lord, I pray you keep all of our children safe today and this school year. Father I pray for a hedge of protection around these kids and Teachers. I pray that any anxiety or nerves be replaced with focus and excitement and that each one of them are blessed in so many ways. We thank You and will Give You all the glory. Amen.

My guys definitely don’t do this job for recognition or fame, but I will give them credit where credit is do. Today two of our officers stopped a vehicle for blowing through a four way stop. After making contact, one of the passengers was requested to exit the vehicle. As he stepped out of the vehicle his gun fell out onto the roadway. He then proceeded to flee on foot. Two officers gave chance and chased the suspect for over a mile before he was apprehended. Illegal drugs, packaging materials, and scales were all recovered from the vehicle. I am so proud of each and every officer who assisted in keeping these drugs off our streets and guns out of the hands of individuals who are clearly not qualified to be carrying them.

Protecting K9 Heroes is pleased to announce that K9 Dante the Soperton Police Department located in Georgia, has been granted a K9 Medical Trauma Kit and a Narcan Kit. These gifts of protection were made possible by Protecting K9 Heroes. Dante is 3 year-old German Shepherd. He has been with his handler Corporal Kyle Strickland and has been employed with the Soperton Police Department since April of 2018. He enjoys playing ball, being goofy, and relaxing on the couch when he is off duty. He loves his job and is always ready to work. The only thing that Dante dislikes is, getting up early in the morning for day shift but once he's up he's ready to get to work.

Naloxone, also known as Narcan, blocks the effects of opioids and reverses overdoses within 2-5 minutes. Each kit includes one 4 Mg device as well as a Narcan Holster. The K9 must still be seen by a veterinarian. Unfortunately, we risk losing K9s to the drug epidemic during searches and our goal is to have their handlers properly equipped in the case of emergencies. Handlers are instructed to receive training from their local veterinarians on the proper use of this product.
Protecting K9 Heroes NFP Ltd is a 501c3 nonprofit organization. We protect K9s through donations and support from various communities. It is our mission to reduce the amount of K9 related deaths throughout the United States by supplying as many of them with the protection they need. We offer Multi-Threat Ballistic Vests, K9 Medical Kits, and Naloxone (Narcan) Kits. If you are interested in making a tax-deductible donation, you may donate through our website at www.protectingk9heroes.com or checks can be mailed to: Protecting K9 Heroes P.O. Box 422 Glenwood, IL 60425. We can be reached at 708-480-2292. You can also follow Protecting K9 Heroes on Facebook!

Press Release: last night at around 8:00pm Soperton police officer Cpl. Kyle Strickland attempted to make a traffic stop on highway 29 for failure to stop at the red light at the intersection of hwy 29 and 221. The vehicle failed to pull over and fled from Cpl. Strickland. The pursuit ended at at the intersection of hwy 46 and college st, where 3 individuals fled the accident scene on foot. We were able to apprehend one of the individuals, who was a juvenile. It was determined that the vehicle was stolen from Swainsboro and the suspects were potentially involved in a drive by shooting in Swainsboro Saturday night. Chief McCoy requested the assistance of the GDC K-9 tracking team as well as GSP aviation with the FLIR to search for the two individuals that were outstanding. After a lengthy search, no one was located. It is believed that the individuals were picked up by a third party and left Soperton. Chief McCoy would like to commend Cpl. Kyle Strickland for his diligent efforts to apprehend these criminals and keep our city safe. Chief McCoy would also like to thank Sheriff Tommy Corbin and his deputies, GSP, and DOC, and a few volunteers ,for all of their assistance in this case also. The investigation is still ongoing and any information regarding the other two men in the car would be of great assistance to law enforcement and our community.

Hogansville, Georgia -We’re still searching for our beloved Bentley who was last seen on March 1, 2018. Based on an investigation we launched which has now concluded, someone picked him up at Loves Plaza with very visible collars and tags. While he is lovable and adorable he belongs to our family since 2009 and has a big brother who is also a yorkie who won’t eat and howls all day and night for his brother and best friend. Offering a $1000 reward for anyone assisting in his return with no questions asked so that Bentley can be with his family again.
