Temporary Summer Laborer – Public Works Department
City of South Bend, Washington
The City of South Bend is seeking qualified applicants for a Temporary Summer Laborer
position within the Public Works Department. This parttime, seasonal role provides hands on support for daily operations, grounds and facility maintenance, and general labor tasks that help
keep the City’s infrastructure and public spaces safe, clean, and well maintained.
Position Summary
Under the direction of the Public Works Supervisor, the Temporary Summer Laborer performs a
variety of manual labor and maintenance duties. Work is performed primarily outdoors and
involves physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, bending, digging, mowing, trimming, painting,
cleaning, and assisting staff with routine maintenance of City facilities, parks, rights of way, and
utility areas.
Typical Duties
ï‚· Groundskeeping, landscaping, mowing, trimming, and vegetation control
ï‚· Cleaning and maintaining City parks, buildings, and public facilities
ï‚· Assisting with minor repairs, painting, and general upkeep
ï‚· Supporting public works staff with daily operational tasks
ï‚· Operating hand tools, power tools, lawn equipment, and small machinery safely
ï‚· Performing litter pickup and debris removal
ï‚· Other duties as assigned to support department needs
Minimum Qualifications
ï‚· Must be 18 years of age or older
ï‚· Ability to perform strenuous physical labor in outdoor environments and varying
weather
ï‚· Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and lawn/landscape equipment
ï‚· Must follow written and verbal instructions and work cooperatively with staff
 Valid Washington State driver’s license required
ï‚· Reliable attendance and punctuality
ï‚· Prior experience in maintenance, landscaping, construction, or groundskeeping is
preferred but not required
Work Schedule & Duration
This is a temporary, parttime seasonal position, typically running through the summer
months. Work hours may vary based on department needs but generally fall within standard
weekday daytime hours.
Wage
$17.50 – $21.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
