Troop 7, Turnpike, was happy to assist the WVSP Richwood Detachment by bringing their new Ford Mustang cruiser to the Cherry River Festival. Special thanks to the WV Parkways Authority for building this cruiser. If anyone is wondering it is a fully functional cruiser that will be used by members on the WV Turnpike.

On Monday, June 15, 2026, at approximately 9:30 pm, Troopers responded to the area of US Route 50 in Romney, near the Family Dollar, for a report of a hit and run. As a result of the incident the victim, Debra L. Edwards 64, died from injuries sustained after being struck by a vehicle as she crossed US Route 50.

The WV State Police is asking for the public’s assistance in locating the individuals in the attached photo. If you are one of the individuals or were in the area that evening, and heard any vehicle horns being blown, or if you recognize any of the individuals, please contact the WV State Police Romney Detachment at 304-822-3561.

On Wednesday, July 22nd, a portion of U.S. Route 119 was officially dedicated in memory of Sergeant Cory Maynard, who was tragically killed in the line of duty in June 2023 while faithfully serving the citizens of West Virginia.

Sergeant Maynard was remembered by family, friends, fellow law enforcement officers, and members of the community for his kindness, generosity, unwavering dedication, and commitment to helping others. His legacy of service and sacrifice will continue to inspire those who wear the badge and the communities they serve.

As travelers pass along this stretch of roadway, may they remember the life of a Trooper who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others.

Senior Trooper C. J. Casey recently stopped by a young man's lemonade stand, taking a moment to support his small business and giving him the opportunity to explore her patrol cruiser. The visit made for a memorable experience and highlighted the positive relationships between the Troopers and the communities they serve. Thank you Senior Trooper C. J. Casey.
