This Sunday, June 13, 2021 we will be observing Firefighters Memorial with our annual parade from the station on Bridge Street to the South Dartmouth Cemetery. Led by members of the Dartmouth High School Band, the Fire Districts will step off at 9 AM and March to the cemetery for a roll call reading of all Dartmouth Firefighters that have passed away. This ceremony then concludes back at the station house. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. This is a small but important event to remember those that have served our community.

In Memoriam
Charles M. Ormonde
1930-2021

“Charlie” proudly served Dartmouth Fire District No. 1 for 50 years, 1957-2007. He served in every role from Lieutenant, Captain, 2nd Assistant Engineer and ending his great 50 year run as a Deputy Chief. Charlie served the department with distinction and was a role model for firefighters and officers alike. He enjoyed being a line officer and being in the thick of activity. Charlie took great pride in training most of the firefighters on apparatus qualifications. He and his brother Joe could often be found together driving Old Ladder 6, Joe up front and Charlie on the tiller. Charlie also served as a department auditor for over 30 years. His dedication to Dartmouth Fire District 1 is legendary and anyone having served with him knows of his love for the department and the men and women who have served with him. Up until his recent illness, he would drive by the station daily waiving and stopping to say Hi to anyone he would see. Charlie will be missed by all and never forgotten.

Yesterday afternoon, DFD1 responded mutual aid to the town of Tiverton RI for a large brush fire. This fire consumed approximately 55 acres of land and took 4 hours to contain. Our crews worked along side Dartmouth District 2 and District 3 crews as well as multiple other area communities from both Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Our firefighters returned to town safely at approximately 8:30pm.

Good morning to all of our followers, as we all sprung ahead this morning with the clock change we would like to remind you it’s also a good time to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors even if they are hard wired into a security system, in most cases now batteries provide back up protection in case of a power outage and as always if you have a question about them feel free to reach out to us and we will assist you in any way possible
