Don't Forget ...
On Wednesday, May 6, 10 am - 11 am Dementia Friendly Elgin Area is hosting our 2nd BEAN AUCTION!
It will take place at Gail Borden South Elgin Branch Library, 127 S. McLean Blvd., South Elgin
What is a bean auction ???
It is a concept of a "mock auction" where those living with dementia and their caregivers can bid on support items, like paper towels, dry shampoo, front door wreaths, name brand snacks, etc. Participants use beans instead of money. We provide the Auction paddles for participants to use!
Who can participate in the bean auction???
All who have signs of mild cognitive impairment and/or dementia are invited to attend with their caregivers. Caregivers may attend on their own, as well.
A "Caregiver" might be a neighbor who could deliver the items to a primary caregiver in their neighborhood or apartment building. A "Caregiver" could be a family member, friend, or fellow parishioner of a primary caregiver, as well. As long as the participant delivers the support items to a primary caregiver of someone with mild cognitive impairment and/or dementia, they are invited to participate.
Participants do not need to reside within the Gail Borden Library
District. No formal diagnosis is needed.
Our goal is to invite attendees from the Elgin Area Memory Cafe'', but to include others who may not have attended the memory cafe' yet.
We hope to get more resource material and support materials out to people in the community through this event.
Do people need to register or RSVP? Nope. Participants should come as they are.
