Rest in peace Chuck Norris. Prior to becoming a Hollywood star, Norris was an Airman in the US Air Force from 1958-1962. While stationed in South Korea, he'd study martial arts. After his enlistment, he'd star in over 30 movies and television shows. Norris would also be a huge supporter of our forward deployed troops visiting American servicemen across the world. May he rest in peace. 🇺🇸

Last night during the State of the Union, retired U.S. Navy Captain Royce Williams was awarded the Medal of Honor for his extraordinary heroism during the Korean War.

On November 18, 1952, flying an F9F Panther from USS Oriskany, Williams engaged and fought off multiple Soviet MiG-15s in a harrowing dogfight over the Sea of Japan—bringing his damaged aircraft home against overwhelming odds. His actions were classified for decades.

Thank you Captain Williams for your service and congratulations on your award. May others be inspired by your courage against overwhelming odds to never give up. Your service will never be forgotten.

OTD in 1945 during the Battle of Iwo Jima, the USS Saratoga CV-3 was hit by more than 5 Japanese bombs and kamikazes. The strikes would kill 124 sailors, and wound another 192. After this strike, the Saratoga would return to Bremerton, WA for repairs. She'd be converted into a training carrier and would never see action again in battle. After the Japanese surrender, the Saratoga would participate in Operation Magic Carpet and transported thousands of U.S. servicemen home.
