It is with a heavy heart that we have to make this post that this morning our police department lost one our own. Sergeant Kuo-sheng “Johnny” Wang. Johnny unfortunately, lost his battle with covid early this morning. Sgt. Wang started his career with the South Houston Police Department in 2001 and served our community for 20 years. He was a wonderful husband, a loving father, and a mentor to many at our police department. Please keep his family and his blue family in your thoughts and prayers during this devastating time.

In recognition of the service given by the men and women who, night and day, stand guard in our midst to protect us through enforcement of our laws, President J.F.Kennedy signed this bill into law on October 1st 1962. To pay tribute to the law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and to voice our appreciation for all those who currently serve on the front lines of the battle against crime, the President designated May 15 of each year as "Peace Officers Memorial Day," and the week in which it falls as "National Police Week" . We want to thank all of those who have served and those who are serving this week and also honor all of those who have fallen in the line of duty.

"Every year during the second week of April, the telecommunications personnel in the public safety community, are honored. This week-long event is a time to celebrate and thank those who dedicate their lives to serving the public. It is a week that should be set aside so everyone can be made aware of their hard work and dedication. Thank you for all the sacrifices you make to create a better and safer world for the public."

Today we want to show appreciation to all our 6 dispatchers that work every day, every night, every weekend, every holiday and every call. This team answers every Police, Fire, EMS and 911 call for the City of South Houston. Thank You.

It’s official, SHARON HIGHFILL is RETIRED... 🎉with great sadness we said our goodbyes to our anchor of South Houston Police Department. 42 years and 5 months of service and dedication. An exemplary officer that embodied leadership, integrity, and professionalism. A career that began as a clerk in records division, to one day Chief, to Administrative Captain. And of course the years in Organized Crimes. Yes, a career to be celebrated and revered! Congratulations and Thank You for your service.

We want to share this amazing event, if you are struggling this year to have a Thanksgiving meal for your family, or you don't have anyone to celebrate with to come out to Avenue A Park and enjoy a hot meal for free. This event is hosted by some wonderful people that are dedicating their time to make sure everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving. We will have some of our S.H.P.O.A. members out there serving food and helping as well as some of our officers. There will be food, music and give aways, please remember that even though the event is outside you will require to wear a facemask when grabbing your food or being around other people. It will be coordinated to be a drive thru trunk or treat, instead of walking like it has been before. Kids and parents must stay in their vehicle and someone from each department or business will aproach vehicle with a treat for the kids. They are requiring for everyone to wear a mask for our safety and yours as well. We hope to see you all there.

We want to share and remind our citizens that we are NOT under evacuation orders as of yet we are zip code 77587 and that puts us in Zone C, only Zone A and B are voluntary and Coastal is mandatory. Please do not panic, but prepare with stocked canned food, batteries, water etc because this storm is showing strong winds so power outages could become an issue like Hurricane Ike instead of severe flooding like Hurricane Harvey. As always we will keep our citizens updated if news changes.

South Houston Police Officers' Association

Another successful Back to School Drive in the books for our South Houston Police Officers' Association we want to thank the community for coming out. We love seeing all the kids smiling faces and the community thank us for what our association strives to do. We wish we could give more, because we know times are difficult this year for a lot of us, but we gave what we could and we hope we can give more next year.

We want to thank everyone that came out to our event! We gave out all 250 backpacks in less then 2 hours. We made the process quick and easy for everyone, we did not hire a photographer this year because we wanted to social distance from taking pictures and social gathering inside of our building, so we have none to post. If your kid or kids went to the event and got a backpack and want to post a picture please do so, we would love to see their smiling faces. See you guys next year!!!!

Hope to see you all there.

The day is almost here and we are so excited for the kids that come! We have so many different backpacks for girls and boys. Snack bags are pre made this year so the process is a lot faster then usual. We want to thank all our sponsors that donate every year to this amazing event. We hope to see you all there on Wednesday August the 5th from 11 A.M. - 2 P.M. or while supplies last.

We want to wish from our little family to yours a very Happy 4th of July. Please rememeber that it is against city and county ordinance to pop fireworks, if you need to report any activity you can call our dispatch center at (713) 944-1910. Please do not celebrate with celebratory gunfire either that is also illegal. Our D.W.I. units will also be out in full force tonight, so don't drink and drive. We want all our citizens to have a fun and safe 4th of July weekend.

We are happy to announce that our South Houston Police Officers' Association will be doing their 6th Annual Back to School Supply Drive. If you would like to be a sponsor for this event you can call the Police Department for more information. We would like to thank those that have been a sponsor year after year for this great event for the children in our community. Take note that the proccess will be different this year due to the Coronavirus, the health of our officers and the community will always come first.

It's official we will still be doing our annual Back To School event that we have been doing for the last 5 years. We know that Governor Abbott said that school will happen this year, and we don't know how long this Coronavirus Pandemic is going be around. But we want to help kids and the families in our community in any way possible. Weather it is with supplies for school or supplies for home school, you can count on us. We will be doing things different this year to make the proccess go by fast with less contact as possible. We hope to see you all there.
