Lake Tahoe Community College Student Senate

Lake Tahoe Community College Student Senate The Student Senate of LTCC is there to provide a voice for our student body. Our goal is to inspire success in our college and community.
The Student Senate is the student voice for Lake Tahoe Community College. We represent the students in the community as well as the statewide level. This year we aim to accomplish many things that help promote student life on campus. Our major goal for this year is to work on advocacy projects that will help revitalize our higher education system. How do I benefit from being involved in Student Senate? Your participation in student government can prove to be one of the most valuable and meaningful experiences in your college career. You will gain experience in planning events and develop organizing, marketing and publicizing skills while gaining an awareness of various college programs and services. In addition, being part of the decision making process of the college can help you develop your personal and leadership skills. You are given the opportunity to work with campus leaders and administrators. Your involvement can be included on your resume and scholarship applications. How can I get involved in Student Senate • Submit an official application. • Attend a minimum of three (3) meetings before being inducted as an official Student Representative. • Maintain at least a 2.0 grade point average, both quarterly and cumulatively. • Maintain at least eight (8) units during the period of office.

Action-packed Board of Trustees meeting last night, with Student Trustee Victor Reynosa getting a big thank you for his year of service, and the swearing-in of our new LTCC Student Trustee, Morgan Montoya. The Board also recognized LTCC Student Excellence Award winner Juan Garcia, "an amazing student leader who truly emulates the Coyote spirit and goes beyond the call of duty to make new and returning students feel comfortable, welcome and happy at LTCC." Juan has served in a wide variety of ways at the college, but many students know him as a super-friendly and caring Ambassador, helping other students navigate the college and succeed at it. Congratulations to Victor, Morgan and Juan!

Good morning, everyone! Today will be a day for Senate to prepare for elections and to encourage folks to take the Student Engagement Survey. I encourage everyone to come out to the college between the hours 9am-2pm. This is a great way to ask about the positions of the senate before (and if) you decide to run for a position. There will also be Taco Thursday this week! Members of the senate will be at the table from 9am to 2 pm but tacos will be available from 12 to 1. Supplies will probably go fast.

Big announcement! Ltcc Student Senate is proud to announce that club hour is coming back for the college! Starting next fall, club hour (time still pending) is a dedicated hour within one or two days out of the week for students to attend clubs. No classes will be scheduled around this hour. The Student Senate has worked hard to bring this vital hour back to student life and we hope it is a big success next fall!

I want to thank Ben, Morgan, and Juan for helping with the tabeling today. All Student Senate representatives, I want to stress the importance of setting up the next year's Senate for success. Trust me, I know we are all busy and not everyone can commit all the time, but we need to get these elections rolling. We need to make it a priority to recruit. We have gathered some ideas to hopefully help with this process. I want to personally thank all of the members for being amazing; we sure faced some adversary this year and we have done amazing. I also want to thank Julie and Danny for always having our back. Thank you again everyone :)
