Southington Democrats on the Town Council recently voted against hiring 3 additional fire fighters. Thats despite the FF union saying for years that our staffing it and enough. Now a massive fire broke out, and Southington Dems are scrambling to save face. Shame on the SDTC for not taking public safety seriously!!

Today’s fire at Chuck & Eddie’s is exactly why staffing matters.

The first-arriving apparatus (Truck 1) was staffed at our minimum staffing level- officer and a driver.

Station 3 — the closest fire station to this incident — was unstaffed—closed for nights and weekends.

Mutual aid departments were needed to assist with the fire and provide coverage for the rest of town for HOURS- on their taxpayers dime.

While firefighters were committed to a major fire involving fuel, hazardous materials, and foam operations, mutual aid departments handled seven additional critical incidents.

Let that sink in.

One major fire.
Seven additional emergencies.
An unstaffed fire station.
Minimum staffing on the first-arriving apparatus.

This, just weeks after the Town Council voted against adding the firefighters they had previously promised, further reduced the Fire Department budget, delayed filling the Assistant Chief position, and eliminated the Chief’s Secretary position—a critical administrative role that supports the daily operation of the department (a position dating back to the 1980’s).

Our firefighters will continue to answer every call, every day, regardless of the circumstances. But today’s incident demonstrates the reality of operating a growing emergency service with insufficient staffing and funding.

This isn’t politics.

It’s public safety.

This is what our rep John Larson is bragging about: making weapons for wars that cost taxpayers 100x any “benefits” our state would receive. It’s not economically bad for the working class, it’s morally evil.

Sadly the Southington DTC doesn’t want community engagement. They want to keep their social club of party insiders closed off. And they’ll lose elections over and over and over to keep it that way.

From February to May of this year, the Connecticut state legislature convened. With no contributions from Senator Sampson, there were some seriously meaningful pieces of legislation that were passed. Here are some of the worst votes Rob Sampson made this session:

1. Online Safety (32-4 vote): Sampson voted against protecting children online
2. Confidentiality for Abuse Survivors (26-10): Sampson voted against expanding the Address Confidentiality Program, which wipes survivors’ info from public records
3. Limiting private equity in buying homes (27-9): Sampson voted against protecting Connecticut homes for Connecticut families, not multinational corporations
4. Private equity in nursing homes (33-3): Sampson voted against keeping Wall Street influence out of Connecticut nursing homes
5. Protecting Teacher Addresses (26-10): Sampson voted against stopping FOIA from disclosing the home addresses of public school teachers

Rob Sampson spends all of his time in the state senate arguing against commonsense bills and failing to deliver meaningful results for his district.

Jill Barry, another worthless “Blue Dog” Democrat has lost the Democratic Party endorsement. Hear that State Representative Chris Poulos? Your conservative buddy in Glastonbury is out. Your “moderate” caucus (conservative caucus) is losing, and you’ll be next soon. How long until you’re endorsed by Southington’s RTC too?

Four-term Democrat Jill Barry was defeated at a nominating caucus Thursday night by Moses Carelus. Barry, considered one of the few moderates in the House Democratic caucus is seeking her fifth two-year term from the Glastonbury district.
