Why We Do It

Day 5 of CHW Week. 💙

As CHW Week comes to an end, I keep thinking about why this work matters so much.

It's the families.
It's the conversations.
It's the moments when someone who felt like they had no options suddenly sees a path forward.
It's watching someone move from crisis toward stability.
It's celebrating the little victories that may seem small to someone else—but are HUGE to the person experiencing them.

Working with families experiencing housing instability isn't always easy. Some days are exhausting. Some situations are heartbreaking. Some days require more patience, creativity, and persistence than others.

But then comes that moment when a family takes another step forward.

And you remember exactly why you do what you do.

We are incredibly proud to be a Community Health Worker and even more proud to be part of the Family Promise of the Great Rivers team.

To FPGR’s CHWs : thank you for listening, advocating, connecting, encouraging, and showing up.

Our work matters. YOU matter. 💙

Happy CHW Week! 🎉

Community

Day 4 of CHW Week! 💙

Community Health Workers don't do this work alone.

Behind every family we serve is a community of people willing to help—volunteers, donors, businesses, schools, healthcare providers, churches, community organizations, and individuals who believe that families deserve a safe place to call home.

At Family Promise of the Great Rivers, we’ve seen firsthand what can happen when a community comes together.

A donated item.A volunteer's time.A meal.A phone call.A connection to a resource.A landlord willing to give someone a chance.A person who simply says, “How can I help?”

Each one can become part of a family's journey toward stability.

It truly takes a community. And we are incredibly grateful to be part of one that continues to show up. 💙

Advocacy

Day 3 of CHW Week: Advocacy. 💙

One of the most important parts of being a Community Health Worker is advocating for the people we serve.

When systems are complicated, resources are limited, and someone feels like they have nowhere else to turn, a CHW can help make sure their voice is heard.

At Family Promise of the Great Rivers, we work alongside families—not above them.
We don't make their decisions for them. We help them understand their options, navigate resources, identify barriers, and take the next step.

Sometimes advocacy looks like a phone call.
Sometimes it looks like showing up.
Sometimes it looks like asking one more question when everyone else has stopped asking.

And sometimes, it simply means reminding someone:
“Your story matters. Your voice matters. And you don't have to navigate this alone.” 💙

Behind the Scenes

Day 2 of CHW Week! 💙

People often see the outcome—but they don’t always see everything that happens behind the scenes.

Being a Community Health Worker can mean making phone calls, tracking down resources, helping someone navigate a complicated system, advocating when someone feels unheard, connecting families with community partners, and sometimes simply sitting down and listening.

At Family Promise of the Great Rivers, our work is about more than providing a place to stay. It’s about helping families identify barriers, find solutions, build stability, and move toward a future where they can thrive.

Every phone call, every conversation, every connection and every small step matters.
The work may not always be visible, but the impact is. 💙

It’s Community Health Worker Week! 💙🎉
Today, we celebrate the incredible work Community Health Workers do every single day to walk alongside individuals and families in their most difficult moments.
CHW’s with Family Promise of the Great Rivers, have the privilege of helping families navigate resources, advocate for their needs, and take steps toward stability.
Sometimes the biggest impact comes from simply being the person who says, “I’m here. Let’s figure this out together.”
CHWs build bridges between people and the resources they need. They listen. They advocate. They connect. They encourage. And most importantly, they never stop believing in the people they serve.
Here’s to all the CHWs who show up every day and make a difference! 💙

Executive Directors Deserve Recognition Too ❤️
Executive Directors of nonprofits often don’t get nearly enough recognition for everything they do behind the scenes.
They are up late at night writing grants, meeting deadlines, searching for funding, answering emails, solving problems, maintaining buildings, making sure programs continue to run, supporting their staff, and constantly looking for ways to make their organization stronger. A lot of the work they do happens quietly and behind the scenes—but it is what keeps a nonprofit moving forward.
Our Executive Director at Family Promise of the Great Rivers, Jesse, deserves ALL the shout-outs, appreciation, and thank-yous—not only from his staff, but from our community and every key player who helps make our mission possible.
Because the truth is, without the dedication and hard work of an Executive Director, so much of what we do simply wouldn’t continue moving forward.
Jesse, we see you. We appreciate you. We recognize the countless hours you put into Family Promise of the Great Rivers. From searching for grants and keeping us afloat, to making sure our organization continues to grow, improve, and operate like a well-oiled machine—you do it all.
And let’s not forget…you’re not just our Executive Director. You’re also our maintenance man, problem solver, grant writer, cheerleader, and whatever else the day happens to require. 😂
You wear so many hats, and you do it all because you care deeply about Family Promise, our staff, and the families we serve.
Jesse, THANK YOU for your dedication, your late nights, your hard work, and for continuously believing in Family Promise of the Great Rivers. We are grateful for you more than you probably realize. ❤️
Today, we celebrate YOU! 👏👏👏
