*****PLEASE NOTE*****
In our region it is illegal to rehab fawns they won’t even allow anyone in the area to have a fawn rehab license! You CAN NOT move fawns from one region to another. See the regulations directly from North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission website attached!
If you find a fawn put it back. If it’s in an unsafe area move it to a safe area within 100 yard of the original location. Fawns naturally don’t have a smell meaning does don’t really know who’s fawn is theirs so they will frequently adopt a fawn. It certainly will have a better chance than moving it to another site requiring euthanasia. You need to let nature take its course. It’s hard but the rules are there for a reason. To prevent CWD from spreading to other areas/deer.
Currently Dr. Saintsing’s job as a mobile veterinarian does not allow her to take animals that require frequent feeding and riding in a truck can be dangerous just like it would be for a pet dog. She may take certain animals in the future but will NOT respond to any request especially about fawns! Anyone that is suspected of doing illegal acts will be turned into local wildlife enforcement officers. We would love to be able to rehab fawns again one day and there is no way that will happen if people can not follow basic laws! If you have questions about the laws you can go to ncwildlife.org for regulations, call the wildlife resources commission or talk to a wildlife enforcement officer. We have ZERO control of the laws we just abide by them with the greater understanding that it’s what is best for deer in prevention of cwd spread currently.

Hi everyone we have so sad news to pass on. Because of the CWD found in Yadkin County this year the WRC is not allowing any fawn rehabilitation within the surrounding area which includes us. This is in the best interest of the NC deer population and had to be a very tough decision for all involved. While rehabbing fawns is our favorite we understand, accept and back this decision. This has been quite a blow to the deer for several years since COVID also made things difficult. We do see a future where we will once again have brown spotted critters running about. Until then we thank you for your support.

Just a quick reminder that February is peak mating season for skunks. For those of you with domestic pets please remember to make some noise and turn on the lights a few minutes before letting them outside (on or off a leash) especially at night. If they get sprayed make sure you contact your veterinarian or poison control as the spray can cause harm to your pets. If you suddenly come upon one try not to startle the animal and slowly walk away from it making as little noise and fast movements as possible.
There are a multitude of products on the market for skunk smell we like -
Dawn with baking soda and hydrogen peroxide
Skunk off especially the “squirter”
And for the house vanilla candles and baking cinnamon with the oven door open
All can help.
Happy Valentine’s Day from everyone at Blue Ridge Wildlife Rehabilitation!!
