As your candidate for Clay County Supervisor, I bring proven leadership, interest in and innovation for city and rural issues affecting our region and state, and a passion for public service. Through my chosen career of law enforcement, I have been employed at the Spencer Police Department from 1983-2012 as a Patrolman, Drug and Criminal Investigator, and Shift Lieutenant. Since my retirement, I e
njoy working part-time as the Spencer Community Schools Resource Officer. I believe my commitment to our youth will be further enhanced through this work as a Supervisor as we meet challenges affecting them and our future. During my time in law enforcement, I served as:
• DARE instructor for 10 years in Spencer Schools and originated DARE in Clay County
• President- Iowa DARE Association
• Iowa DARE Officer of the Year
• Leadership Spencer graduate
• Spencer Law Enforcement Officer of the Year
These experiences in public service have taught me the importance of:
• Listening to all points of view
• negotiating
• decision-making
• compromise
• being firm
• reasonable and
• accountable for my actions. During this same time, my business ventures in renovating homes has provided local housing options, the patronizing of local businesses for supplies, while increasing the tax base in Spencer.

• A multi-unit (3) apartment building
Combine that with the removal of the Spencer Golf Course Clubhouse and the vision I had for it as a great hunting cabin in the woods are examples of my construction and remodeling projects. These projects have taught me the importance of
• economic development
• fiscal responsibility
• maintaining conservative values that get the job done in the budget allowed
• using innovation and creativity to meet a goal, and
• maintain a balance between work and play. I have been married to my wife, Kim for 40 years and have two adult daughters.; Mallory is married to Brandon Anderson and Whitney is married to Adam Brierly. I love to fish and hunt and spend time with family and friends. I am proud to have served my country as a four year active duty veteran of the U.S. I would appreciate your vote on March 7th for Clay County Supervisor.
