This is how a room set up looks for mommas and children coming into HJRA residential program. Each room is set up based upon the needs of the family, whether it’s a mom with four children, a pregnant mom due any day or a momma who is separated from her children by the child welfare system that is fighting like hell to save herself and regain custody of her babies.

Our team advocates tirelessly to ensure families have what they need to thrive, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the entire household, promoting recovery, healing and accountability.

We are blessed to do the work that we do but it is not always acknowledged by the community. Last week we’re were notified that the owner of two of our long term rentals were selling their homes, this week we attempted an offer on one of the homes we have been in for over three years, the owner was asking $30k over our offer price of $390k which we cannot afford.

Now we find ourselves in desperate need of another rental to rehouse 5 families and to ensure the move will be the least intrusive as possible for those families.

If you know of a 5 bedroom 2+ bathroom rental please message me, we hope to have a place secured by May.

Gratitude to the senior residents, staff and contractors who work to set up, restore, pack, clean up etc to creating a welcoming environment for the families we serve.

Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, and it is a reminder for all of us, especially adults and victim service professionals, that intimate partner violence can begin early. According to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center’s Teen Dating Violence Prevention Resources (2025 update), among people who have experienced intimate partner violence (s*xual or physical violence, and/or stalking), over 70% of women and over 60% of men first experienced it before age 25. The same resource notes that one in four women who experienced intimate partner violence first experienced it before age 18. It also reports that over 80% of women and men who have been r***d say their first r**e occurred before age 25.

It also matters who is causing harm. Sexual violence is often committed by someone the survivor knows, and over 28% of girls who experienced s*xual violence before age 18 were r***d by a current or former intimate partner. These realities underscore why early intervention, accurate screening, and survivor-centered support are critical. Teens deserve to be believed, taken seriously, and connected to help quickly, even when abuse is minimized as “young love” or “drama.”

Victims of any type of crime, including dating violence and intimate partner violence, can contact VictimConnect Resource Center for support and referrals. Call 1-855-4-VICTIM (1-855-484-2846) or chat at victimconnect.org.

Shared From Mental Health America

Today is the first day of , and we wanted to celebrate by uplifting the work of nine of our peers working to advance and protect Black mental health. ❤️💚🖤

This month, we’ll continue highlighting Black and African American contributions to the mental health movement because they are oftentimes overlooked. Without recognizing the lack of representation of Black and African American people in the mental health movement, we do a disservice and continue to inflict harm.

Human Trafficking Awareness Month

January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, a time to recognize and raise awareness about the realities of child s*x trafficking and the impact it has on children and communities. Child s*x trafficking often hides in plain sight, on public transportation, in hotels and restaurants, through ride-shares, and within communities of every size and type. Children who are missing or have run away are especially vulnerable, as traffickers exploit their need for safety, stability, and belonging through false promises of care and protection.

This crime affects children of all genders and backgrounds. By learning the warning signs and understanding how to prevent and report trafficking, each of us can play a role in protecting children. Awareness is a critical first step toward ensuring every child has the safe childhood.
